Batman Turns 75!

Batman’s 75th Anniversary is this year.  On July 23rd, 2014 (Batman Day) will be the day he is officially recognized as 75.  However, you could decorate for the month in a Batman theme within your library.  Just another chance to connect with your patrons with a program.  Give it some thought it could be fun.  Thanks to ICv2 for the heads up.

Constantine First Image

This is the first shot of Matt Ryan in the traditional Constantine attire for the NBC pilot.  I remember Matt Ryan from his stint on Torchwood.  When you think about it, it’s kind of odd that the BBC never went after this property (and maybe they did and I don’t know about it) they would have done it up good.  I hope NBC will do it right.  Thanks to ICv2 for the image and you can read more here at their link: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/28126.html

Flash Arriving in Arrow

Here is the look of the upcoming Flash in Arrow.  It has been a while since we’ve seen Flash in a full body suit.  Smallville didn’t have him in a costume and if I remember right they actually said that was Impluse.  However, for those old enough or have seen the series from back in the 1990’s, I believe, will remember the Flash series and in it he had a full body costume.  The one above looks right for today’s looks.  Thanks to ICv2 for the heads up.

Nancy Collins Stakes a Claim on Vampirella

Nancy Collins has inked a deal to write the Vampirella series from Dynamite Entertainment.  For those not sure of who Nancy Collins is her series Sunglasses After Dark featuring the Sonja Blue character will probably sound familiar.  Nancy over in a post on ICv2 says she wants to bring Vampirella back to her horror roots and make it a darker story.  For me I hope this happens, because at times writers forget about the horror background and make it more of an adventure story.  Link back to ICv2’s article here for more information: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/28016.html

Biggest Production Deal Made

Marvel/Disney strikes a deal with New York and Netflix.  In the deal filming will begin on four Marvel series: Daredevil; Jessica Jones; Luke Cage; Iron Fist; plus a mini-series to wrap up the first season of all four of these series entitled Defenders.  All told it will be approximately 60 episodes total and Netflix will role out the series in 2015.

Heroes Unite Deck Building Game

For the fans of CCG’s and Deck Building games the new DC game is one you will want to include in your collections.  The game itself is Heroes Unite and is scheduled for release on the 26 (tomorrow).  You can use this as its own game or you can combine this set with the 2012 DC Comics deck building game.  The suggested retail price is $40.00.

Pokemon Garchomp-EX Boxes

If you lean more into the TCC gaming then this set you will want to pick up.   A Pokemon Garchomp-EX Box is scheduled to be release on April 2.  This box contains the first time that the Garchomp-EX has been released as a foil trading card and will only be available in this box set.  The set will also include an over-sized Garchomp-eX card and four booster packs and will retail at the suggested price of $19.99.

Marvel Offers Revenge Title

If you or your patrons are fans of ABC’s Revenge, currently in it’s third season, then this graphic novel might interest you.  Marvel is slated to release Revenge: The Secret Origin of Emily Thorne on September 3.  This is one you will want to consider adding to your graphic novel collection.  This is kind of becoming a habit with Disney.  They already have graphic novels for their ABC series Castle and Once Upon a Time.

Will Eisner Graphic Novel Grants

If you haven’t heard the Will & Ann Eisner Family Foundation has a grant that is geared for libraries.  There are two categories: “Will Eisner Graphic Novel Innovation Grant” which provides support to a library that would like to expand its existing graphic novel services and programs; and “Will Eisner Graphic Novel Growth Grant” which provides support to a library for the initiation of a graphic novel service or program.  To apply for the grant you will need to visit this link http://www.ala.org/gamert/will-eisner-graphic-novel-grants-libraries  to download the application cover sheet and then you will need to write a two page narrative on your library’s need and intentions with the grant funds.

Besides the funds the library that is awarded a grant will receive a collection of Will Eisner’s work and biographies, the current nominees for the Will Eisner Award and a stipend to help attend the American Library Association’s Annual Conference to accept the award.

If you are interest you will need to act fast because the deadline for submitting grant applications is February 7 (This Friday).

TMNT MiniComic Packs

If you are a comic book collector and/or into the “Turtles” this might interest you.  IDW Publishing will be adding the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to its Micro Comic Fun Packs.  The Fun Packs are scheduled for an April 1 release date (this is a weird date so hopefully they aren’t pulling our leg).  The packs will contain one of four, 22 page mini comics, if you want to purchase them to add to you collections.
