Comic Book Brief Glossary

Absolute Editions – A reprinting of a story that is done in an elaborate binding.  This will cost around $100.00 per book when they are first released.

Collected Editions – A group of comic books that are reproduced in a book format.

Comic Book – Usually a 24 page book that is stapled as a binding.

ElseWorlds Story – A story that is told, but is not considered part of the ongoing series.  It usually happens in a different timeline or the characters are drastically different are some of the characteristics of this type of story.

Graphic Novel – An illustrated story that is a self contained story.  This term has become the common term when discussing graphic novels and trade paperbacks.

Graphic Story Album – A prose book with several full-page illustrations.

Ongoing Series – A series that has no ending planned.

Stand Alone – A story line that is told by itself outside of an ongoing series.

Story Arc – A specific story that is told within an ongoing series.

Trade Paperback – A group of comic books that are reproduced in a book format.

What If Story – A story that is told, but is not considered part of the ongoing series.  It usually happens in a different timeline or the characters are drastically different are some of the characteristics of this type of story.
