JULIA WELDON
PREMIERES NEW VIDEO FOR
“CAREFUL IN THE DARK”
“Careful in the Dark,” is heavy on narrative. Visually resplendent and with costume design reminiscent of the fantastic work in Wes Andersen’s Moonrise Kingdom, it initially explores natural beauty and territory.
At first it seems it’ll be about two lovers’ virgin adventure into uncharted territory. In some sense it is, but that uncharted territory turns out to be riddled with obstacles. Moving from wrestling matches to pillow fights, the video charts the course of a relationship, through its highs and lows. As Julia sings that she is “hopelessly drawn to the battle and the blood,” we see why: the drama is engrossing, and even when it’s bad, it’s intense, full of meaning.
This is a very simple song with a slight folk sound. As mention above its about relationships and how they have there ups and downs. The main thing to remember is you have to work on relationships. Sometimes people take the easy way out, but if you go through those rough patches the relationship grows stronger. So I like that Julia kept this song simple and told a story with it.
