MIRK has given us a sneak peek of their upcoming album Run, which the single “Rocketship”. This is one that will get your head a bobbing. The rhythm of the single is very catchy. “Black Cat White Cat” is the debut single for Annalibera’s upcoming album Nevermind I Love You. “Black Cat White Cat” is a moody song and will be one that you listen to when you are contemplating things and need some alone time. Annalibera has a clear voice, but she with her softer voice the instruments can over power her at times. Let that voice come through and shine. Tom Levin is one that surprised me. Tom comes to us from Sweden with his debut single “Mind’s Eye”. Looking at the pic above most people will wonder if this will be for them. However, when you listen to Tom he has a very clear voice. The opening hits you in the face with a tribal feel and then when Tom comes in the single takes on an almost folk feel. So I guess you could say it has a tribal/folk feeling. The lyrics are fun and with his baritone/bass voice gives it a powerful tone as well. Take a listen through SoundCloud – Richard
This is a promising start for Jeanine. “Runnin'” reminded me of something Diana Ross might sing, just in a higher register. I have to say I love the Wolverine pic above. Anyway back to the single. Jeanine even with a higher voice, she is very clear with her lyrics, which is difficult for a higher register singer. I also loved the up beat of “Runnin” . The beat does get a little repetitive, but I believe that was what Jeanine was going for. By the time the single is finished the listener is wore out, just like you would be if you were running. HerMajesty gives us their latest single “Days Turn into Nights”. This single is a real moody single. With this single herMajesty has to be careful because the lead singers voice is right on the edge of being lost in the instrumentals, but it hovers right above that threshold. “Days Turn into Nights” feels like you are in a bath and have warm water slowly being poured over you, while you have a nice drink or if someone has joined you for some welcome activities. Here is the latest single from The Great Work, “Yellow Diamond”. This has a nice rock feel that everyone will like. For me the instruments over powered the vocalist and to me would be more a more enjoyable single if they group could balance out their sound. Give it a listen through SoundCloud – Richard:
The first thing that popped into my head at the beginning of Lindasy Mac’s “Remember” was….Owl City. This single really harkens to his style. It is very upbeat in tempo and her voice is very clear. I love this style myself and hope she continued on for the rest of her EP entitled Animal Again. Can’t wait to her more from Lindsay, but until then check out “Remember” through SoundCloud – Richard:
Adrian Croom comes to with an instrumental that has flavors of hip/hop and traditional elements. I wasn’t sure what to expect from his single “Fast Forward”, but I listened to it and came away enjoying it. I like the simple style in my music at times and with “Fast Forward: having the piano present through the whole song I really enjoyed. When the hip/hop comes in it takes a shift for me and almost feels like a futuristic sound that you would find in a science fiction movie. Year of October has a blending of Blues and Rock and that is evident in their latest single “Gone”. The verse with Phlecia carries the bluesy feel, but then the song takes a step back for Josh to do a rock guitar riff. This is an interesting mix and it worked for me. Here’s one from one of our friends on Twitter, Spitty95, with the single “No Flex Zone”. Wasn’t thrilled with the opening, but once the song came into focus they had a real clear sound. Sometimes in Rap that can be a difficult thing. The sound is more of a mainstream rap, something you could hear on even a pop station. I don’t know if this is intentional or not, but it does give Spitty95 more crossover appeal. I have to comment, being a science fiction fan I loved the Back to the Future reference, it was fun to hear. Take a listen through SoundCloud below – Richard
