Just saw this on Yahoo with the link to Popular Machanics of the unveiling of the U.S.S. Enterprise at the Smithsonian. This is the 11 foot model that the series used during filming the original series of Star Trek. It looks great! Maybe some day I might even get to D.C. to see it in person. D.C. Cherry Blossom Festival
This year during the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery will be hosting a Ghibli film marathon. The event will be held April 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and is a free event. If you happen to be in the area or your library is in the area let your patrons know about the marathon. Movies that will be shown are: Ponyo; Porco Rosso; Princess Mononoke; and Spirited Away.
Gaming Art at the Smithsonian
If your library is in the D.C. area you will definitely want to let your gamers know about this upcoming exhibit at the Smithsonian Art Museum. During March 16 – September 30 the Smithsonian will have an exhibit entitled “The Art of Video Games”. During it’s opening weekend they will be having an additional event “GameFest”. During “GameFest”, on March 17, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. the Art Museum will host Metal Gear Solid’s game series designer Hideo Kojima in the McEvoy Auditorium. Smithsonian to Host Satoshi Kon Tribute
Anime News Network has posted that the author of Japanamerica, Ronald Kelts, will host a tribute of director Satoshi Kon at the Smithsonian Museum. Any librarians in the D.C. area will want to let their anime fans know about this event. The tribute is this Saturday, April 2, so there is no time to waste in letting your patrons know about this event. The day will start with a screening of Kiki’s Delivery Service and end with the tribute, by Kelts, for Satoshi Kon and then followed by a screening of Kon’s Paprika.
