“Medicate the Babies Awake”, by The Great Work, has that Apocalyptic feel to it that several Hard Rock Bands have done. Jes has had a good November, with her release of “Sky Stand Still”. The single is the theme of the documentary The Principle. The single has a nice drum march beat to it that brings out the rhythm for people to get into. The song isn’t a fast beat dancing song, but more of a power ballad song. Jes’ voice fits perfectly and has a really nice sound quality. Check it out through SoundCloud – Richard
Andre Costello & the Cool Minors hit with a cool single for me. I enjoy Folk music and this is probably where they would fit the best. The single “Places” isn’t by any means a Folk Rock, but more in line with pure Folk to Folk Pop. It has a nice clear sound and the vocals are up front for everyone to enjoy while the instruments give a nice foundation for the single. If you are into Folk music you will definitely enjoy “Places”. Even if your not big into Folk give it a listen through the SoundCloud link below it has a catchy rhythm – Ricard:

The opening to “Any Day” by Jay Soul made me wonder if I was going to like this single. However, when Jay comes in with the bass beat I was hooked. I like the upbeat music that makes you want to move you body and “Any Day” does that. “Any Day” has an electro pop feel to it, but the instruments don’t over power Jay’s lyrics. It is a nice blend that makes you bob your head. Take a listen through SoundCloud, if you like the upbeat songs you will probably enjoy this single for Jay Soul – Richard:

Already I love this band. From their style to their name, they’ve got everything I look for in a band. Not to mention I loved the music. The grinding of the electric guitars and just overall clash made for some amazing rock. The only critique I have is that the vocals need to be brought out more. When I hear the singer he sounds great (even with the voice modifications) because he fits the music really well but for the most part I can’t hear him. Even when I can hear him it’s hard to understand a thing he’s saying, which stops their message from getting through to others, if Mammabear fixed that small thing they would be incredible.

The first thing I noticed-before the video even began- was that it was roughly a 5 minute song, with that much time to fill it better be good. Sadly, I wasn’t over the moon for Aers. Their intro was very melodic and interesting but the voice plus the slow tempo didn’t do it for me. The voice is too flowy and to me sounded like a bad trip off mushrooms because it was injected with so many voice changes, the saddest part is that through all of that I can hear a really great voice if they wouldn’t doctor it up so much or even not at all. The tempo dragged the song on and I was leaning forward but not in the good way- I was leaning over to try to get the song to go faster. It seemed strange at such a slow tempo and was almost painstakingly slow. If Aers upped the tempo and took out all the voice modifiers I would definitely give them another listen to.

Holy rock, this is my type of band. From the intro I was immediately into the song and really liked the raw almost jagged sound to the music. I did get a little lost in the middle of the song though, because the instrumentals overpowered the vocals too much. Rock music needs strong vocals to sit on top of it and emote even more. The only time a softer voice works in rock is if the voice is distinctively separated from the music but it wasn’t in this case. If the vocalist gets stronger and can be heard better I would love this group. They’ve got the foundation of a good rock band, if they just tweaked a couple things they would be there.

I’ll be honest, I was skeptical of this group from the very beginning just from their name. A group’s name is very important, you want it to be unique but still attract people and I’m afraid this group name would deter me. Getting to the music my reason for being skeptical was justified. The intro was interesting and I enjoyed the mix of percussion and electro but the vocals were lacking. I didn’t like the smoother flow of the lyrics because the music is already connected, I really wanted the vocals to be harsher and more defined. The instrumental interlude was really cool and I could listen to it all day, the vocals also got a little better when the song picked up the pace but I still wasn’t too fond of it. I honestly would love it if they created this song purely for the instrumental music and I never say that.

I was really intrigued by the intro of Maggie’s song ‘Little Joys’ but the treatment of her voice didn’t do it for me. I didn’t even mind the slower tempo most of the time. At some spots it felt a little draggy and could have been kept up a little better but I think the rhythm of the vocals pulled it along. The raw feel of her music is brilliant and I wouldn’t change a thing. Especially towards the end where only the strings are playing. As long as Maggie makes sure to not let her music get too draggy and fix that voice treatment she’ll become one of my favorites and others as well.
