TIE Fighter – Short Film
Very cool short film. If you are a fan of 1980’s style animation you will enjoy it even more. Great job by: Paul Johnson, artist/animator; Zakir Rahman, music; and Joseph Leyva, sound effects. Enjoy
What if there was an Empire-focussed short Star Wars animation, drawn with the crazy detail and shading of classic 80s anime that’s all but vanished from Japan nowadays?
Well, I tried my best. Apologies in advance for not living up to Venus Wars standards.
Drawn and animated by yours truly over 4 years’ worth of weekends, with music by the living guitar solo Zak Rahman and sound design by up and coming audio technician Joseph Leyva. Fans of Lucasarts’ seminal 1994 TIE Fighter game may notice a few familiar sights and sounds. That “incoming missile” noise gives me horrible flashbacks to this day…Official poster art: http://mightyotaking.deviantart.com/a…

Story/character info pdf file: http://www.mediafire.com/view/cpnc1oj…Special thanks to the good folk at Lucasfilm for encouraging people to get creative and make these kind of projects. It’s thanks to their extremely fan-friendly nature that we can enjoy IMPS: The Relentless, TROOPS, etc.
Don’t support me on Patreon, because I don’t have one! And don’t donate to my Kickstarter, because I don’t have one of those either. Instead, if you enjoyed this, give someone at your workplace, uni, school or whatever a random bar of chocolate or can or Coke or something. Seriously, it’ll probably make their day.
That would totally make my day.
Star Wars Looks to the Future
The folks over at starwars.com have released some information about the future of the Star Wars franchise. Of course it isn’t a whole lot, but it is interesting. This summer filming will begin for the first stand alone Star Wars movie, entitled Rogue One, starring Felicity Jones. Rogue One is slated for a December 16, 2016 release. Then the next installment of the main movies, Star Wars VIII, is scheduled for a May 26, 2017, release and will be written and directed by Rian Johnson. We will see how much will change between now and then.
LucasFilm Gives The Title for Episode VII
Star Wars Episode Vii: The Force Awakens, I like it. During the original trilogy the Force was in basically in a forced dormant state by the Emperor. So by the end of Return of the Jedi with the Emperor’s defeat many of the beings that do have Force traits can allow themselves to awaken the force within them.

Star Wars to go Single Continuity?
A surprising announcement from LucasFilm. Leland Chee says the Star Wars continuity is being looked at a a possible single continuity. No more of the movie or television show takes priority over another story because it is in a different format. This will make it nice for fans, which I’m sure will still find something to argue about, but difficult for the archivist who has to keep everything straight. Another question will be how far back into the storytelling formats will they go to say something is continuity or not. Only time will tell. Here is one statement made by Chee:
Chee tweeted that “Star Wars Canon is now determined by the Lucasfilm Story Group.” Asked whether that meant that the new Star Wars comics will be considered canon, or that they could still be contradicted by the movies and TV shows, Chee said, “Story Group has a hand in all facets of Star Wars storytelling, including movies, TV, games, and publishing.”
And asked whether the goal is to dispose of the hierarchy (in which movie continuity took precedence), Chee said, “That’s definitely a primary goal of the Story Group.”
Bringing the comics in house (see “Marvel Gets ‘Star Wars’“) could make it easier to create a single continuity across all expressions of the property. Outside licensees such as Fantasy Flight Games (see “Second ‘Star Wars RPG’ Adventure“) will undoubtedly also be impacted by the new strategy.
Star Wars going back to Marvel in 2015
What most people believed would happen is going to happen. In 2015, the Star Wars comic books will be back under the Marvel Entertainment Banner. In a business sense this makes all the sense in the world. Disney now owns both Marvel and LucasFilm, so this move will have the properties under their control. Dark Horse Comics has done a great job over the past 20 plus years and we thank them for their work. Now fans must get ready for the transition, but we have 12 months.
Lucasfilm and Marvel Join Forces to Publish Star Wars Comics
The Star Wars Universe comes to Marvel Comics in 2015!
The Walt Disney Company’s Lucasfilm Ltd. and Marvel Entertainment are joining forces to bring new Star Wars adventures to readers across the galaxy, with Marvel granted exclusive rights to create and publish Star Wars comics and graphic novels beginning in 2015.
The agreement marks a homecoming for the Star Wars comic books. Marvel Comics published the first Star Wars comic book, STAR WARS #1, in March 1977, which went on to sell more than 1 million copies. Marvel Comics published its STAR WARS series for nine years. In 1991, Dark Horse Comics took over the license, publishing fan-favorite titles like Dark Empire and Star Wars: Legacy. Last year, Dark Horse released The Star Wars #1, an adaptation of George Lucas’ original rough-draft screenplay for the film, garnering rave reviews and national media attention and ranking among the top-selling Star Wars comics of all time.
“Dark Horse Comics published exceptional Star Wars comics for over 20 years, and we will always be grateful for their enormous contributions to the mythos, and the terrific partnership that we had,” said Carol Roeder, director of Lucasfilm franchise publishing, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “In 2015, the cosmic adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and Chewbacca will make the lightspeed jump back to Marvel, to begin a new age of adventures within the Star Wars universe.
“We here at Marvel could not be more excited to continue the publication of Star Wars comic books and graphic novels,” said Marvel Worldwide Publisher and President, Dan Buckley. “The perennial brand of Star Wars is one of the most iconic in entertainment history and we are honored to have the opportunity to bring our creative talent pool to continue, and expand Star Wars into galaxies far, far away.”
“We’re incredibly excited by this next chapter in the Star Wars saga,” said Andrew B. Sugerman, executive vice president of Disney Publishing Worldwide. “Bringing together the iconic Lucasfilm and Marvel brands to tell new stories will allow us to continue to thrill lovers of the original Star Wars comic books and entertain generations to come.”
Marvel has continued to push comic book publishing forward with innovations and experiments like motion comics and digital-only releases, in addition to its deep, ongoing catalog of monthly series and graphic novels created by some of the industry’s most gifted artists and writers.
