Free Show at Silverlake Lounge

PRESENTS

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 23
at SILVERLAKE LOUNGE

Monday nights are usually dead in this town, but you can fix that by coming out to Silverlake Lounge next week for the third night of The MuseBox residency. This Monday we’ve got an extensive bill, headlined by La Dolce Vita with support from the Mo-Odds and the Moderates.

La Dolce Vita are fronted by Emmy Award-winning actor Michael Imperioli of the Sopranos, and they make the kind of scuzzy rock and roll that’ll have us all running out to buy CBGB/OMFUG shirts afterward. We’re thrilled to have them and we’re pretty damn sure you’ll dig their GBV-meets-Richard Hell vibe, too.

The Mo-Odds have built a reputation in Los Angeles for their insane live show. The Moderates are Long Beach’s favorite hook machine, and their new album Colour has picked up some nice buzz.

Don’t miss them. Come out to Silverlake Lounge on September 23, starting at 8pm. Oh, and did we mention it’s free? Because it’s totally, 100% FREE.

“Ghost” Video by RAJ

RÁJ

Debut Single “Ghost” With Accompanying Video Premieres on Pigeons & Planes
Earns Coveted Next Hype Label from the BBC’s Zane Lowe

Last week, RÁJ’s debut single “Ghost” exclusively premiered via Pigeons & Planes and earned the coveted “Next Hype” label from tastemaker DJ Zane Lowe of BBC Radio One.

Now, RÁJ has again partnered with Pigeons & Planes to premiere the video for “Ghost.”

Shot on location in Budapest, amidst grey skies, rain puddles, and old city streets, it tells the story of a woman whose brittle hands and mournful visage belie the lavish attention she gets from the men around the city.

Much of the video is about movement: trams running through the beautiful cityscape, bus rides, rain drops, walking home from work. But it is also about stasis: about the invisibility we battle on a daily basis, stuck in patterns and relationships and roles that we feel powerless to change.

In other words, the video is about being a ghost. Or, as Heidegger would say, it’s about fallenness. While it might be a little much to call RÁJ a modern-day Heidegger, he’s clearly onto something poignant here.

RAJ releases A “Ghost” to the Airwaves

Left-field artist RÁJ is mysterious — even we don’t know who he is. And like Jai Paul or Burial before him, he’s a singular voice, one whose mysteriousness aids his sly, tough to pin down songs.

“Ghost” is a slow burner that draws the sonic hallmarks of beat culture into the realm of actual songcraft, like Bon Iver collaborating with Bibio. As it builds, RÁJ carries the song into high drama territory, with an intensity that sounds like a male Florence Welch.
RAJ likes to play with a the sounds of instruments  in his release of “Ghost”.  This will not be on most people’s radar because of the uniqueness of his sound.  His voice is really clear and a pleasure to listen to.  This is one that after I listened to it I could get into.  If you like experimenting with your music this is definitely one for you.  Give it a listen below by click on the link.

Lots of Love in Book Stores

Lots Of Love’s Jessica Fleischer
Set To Release Children’s Book

‘Little Luna and The Universe’
on September 24th.

Save the date for the book’s launch:
Thursday, September 26th, 6-8pm
at Books and Cookies in Santa Monica.

Five years in the making, Little Luna and the Universe not only teaches children about the bigger picture of the Universe on a scientific level, it also exposes them to spiritual themes of love and oneness that are necessary to fully grapple with the hugeness of our existence.

On the night we meet Little Luna, she dreams herself to a distant place in the Universe.  Far away from everything she knows, she must learn about the Universe before she can go back home and return to wake up in her bed.

She learns about galaxies, the solar system, and the names of all the planets. She also learns about the moon, and that the Universe and everything in it are one.  By the end of her journey, she understands that she is part of that oneness.

A Letter from Lots of Love to their Fans

A Message from LOTS OF LOVE to you:

I am very excited to finally be able to share my very first full-length album ‘From the Start’ with you and the rest of the world.

Music has always been a huge part of my life. It has always had the power to take me to magical places and experience feelings I never knew I had in places I never even knew existed. That’s what good music does.

When I first started writing songs of my own it was the most exciting and transformative feeling in the world!  The first song I ever wrote, ‘It’s Happening’ practically flew out of me around nine years ago. If you listen to lyrics you can kind of tell. The moment I played back my first demo-recording of it, my life had been changed.  From that point on, I knew I was a song-writer.  Now, not only did I have access to the powerful world of listening to great music by other artists, but I realized I also had the power to make music of my own. Song-writing is one of the greatest gifts in the world.  It is an emotional outlet and can be your best friend when you need one. It can also be a fun and rewarding form of self-expression and artistry.

It is my intention with the release of ‘From the Start’ , that this album will find its audience. The music I’ve made over the years has certainly been a gift to me. Now I want to share it with you, and allow it to reach the minds, ears and hearts of all people in this world who will enjoy it.

There are songs on this album that will uplift you, songs that you can listen to when you are sad and need to feel sad a little while longer, and songs that might make you think will probably surprise your ears. I hope you enjoy the music, and please stay in touch with me if you dig it. Thank you!

LOTS OF LOVE,

Jess

And remember to pick up Lots of Love’s new album From the Start, which came out yesterday.  Here is a sample of Lots of Love’s music that Jess was kind enough to let ComicPop Library’s gang so check out “It’s So Hard”.

New Album gives LOTS OF LOVE “From the Start”

Lots of Love

Premieres Her Latest Track

From The Start

Full Length Album out August 27th

Jessica Fleischer has been playing music in some form or another for as long as she can remember. There were years of bedroom demos and small shows around Los Angeles. But now, with the recording and release of her debut album under the moniker LOTS OF LOVE, Jessica is ready to share with the world.

Lots of Love gives me a nostalgic feeling when I listen to the individual singles.  I hear the old rock influence shinning through, but then I will hear a sneak of country mixed in.  To me I’m hearing that mixture (and I might be the only one) and enjoying it.  When I hear Jessica’s voice I get transported back to when songs like “My Boyfriends Back” by The Angels and “Johnny Angel” by Shelly Fabares, but like I said an occasional sneak of like a Crystal Gayle or even some Donna Fargo, where playing on the radio.  So to me this is a winner, something that I haven’t heard personally in a while, so it’s refreshing for me.

Jessica was kind enough to allow us to post the track, “It’s So Hard”, from her new album for our ComicPop listeners. Give it a listen I think you will enjoy it.  So thank you to Jessica for doing this for our listeners and be sure to pick up her album on August 27!

Hey gang I just listened to some of Brick & Mortars singles.  This one is kind of a hard one to pin down for me.  I can hear different influences in the different titles.  In “Bangs” you definitely hear the hard rock influence, but then you have some traditional rock feel and alternative rock in another.  So the band is kind of all over for me, which isn’t a bad thing, it means they have variety on their EP.  What I really enjoy is that no matter what the style you can clearly hear and understand the lead vocals.  Kind of hard to do with some of the styles they perform.
Asbury Park, NJ’s Brick & Mortar are Brandon Asraf (bass, vocals) and John Tacon (drums, samples, vocals). The duo may have chosen to name themselves after building essentials, but at this point, they’re veritably blowing up.
