Cameron The Public Making a Splash!

CAMERON THE PUBLIC

DEBUTED THE THEME SONG FOR THE FILM “MANNY” AT THE FILM’S SXSW PREMIERE

+

COVER OF MICHAEL JACKSON’S “MAN IN THE MIRROR” FEATURED ON GREY’S ANATOMY LAST WEEK!

Cameron The Public, a high-energy pop-rock band fueled by the relentless ambition of singer/songwriter Cameron Rafati, will debuted their theme song, “Face Your Destiny” from the Manny Pacquiao documentary, “Manny.” The film will premiered last Saturday, March 8th at SXSW. The video for “Face Your Destiny” was shown directly after the film.

Additionally, Cameron The Public’s cover of Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror” was featured in the March 6th episode of Grey’s Anatomy (ABC).  The track was produced by J2 and is available on the ABC website.

Cameron the Public has a nice sound.  The “Face Your Destiny” track for the Manny Pacquiao documentary is a great inspirational type of song to get you up and face what life throws at you head on. The “Man in the Mirror” cover has a different feel (much slower), but has no less impact.  Check out the YouTube video below, from “Manny Pacquiao Movie” channel, for “Face Your Destiny”- Richard

“Dark is Coming” is a beautiful song.  The instruments have a nice beat going and with Rachel singing in a soft voice the instruments don’t over power her.  A very clean and crisp song.  Those looking for a more relaxed style of music will definitely enjoy Rachel.  So take the time to check her out and tell your friends about her.  – Richard

Hawker M. James Releases New Single every Full Moon

HAWKER M. JAMES (EX-LONGWAVE) TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE EVERY FULL MOON

VALENTINE’S DAY RELEASE ENTITLED

“I NEED YOUR LOVE!” OUT NOW!

FULL LENGTH RELEASE BY END-OF-YEAR ENTITLED “PHASES”

Last Friday, Hawker M. James released a brand new single entitled “I Need Your Love!“, co-written with former Longwave bandmate Steve Schiltz. A new single will be released on the full moon of each month and this will be the second of 12 tracks to be placed on a full length album entitled Phases to be released by Ardent Music at the end of the year.

On last month’s full moon, Hawker M. James (formerly Mike James/Mikey Jukebox, mastermind behind Admirers and The Mercies, one-time Longwave drummer), a prolific singer/songwriter known in part for his DIY production ethic, released “These Hands Are Made Of Fire a pure indie rock track with just a hint of Manic Street Preachers and Guided By Voices.

I love Hawker M. James smooth sound that they mix with stinging rock, if that even makes sense. They keep me interested throughout the whole song without anything grating on my ears. I am reminded of Jake Bugg and Jack White when I listen to them–two artists I extremely enjoy listening to. Hawker M. James has a great future ahead of them and will always find a spot on my playlist.

Melanie Martinez’ Debut Single Dollhouse

DARK POP BREAKOUT STAR
MELANIE MARTINEZ
RELEASES VIDEO
 “Dollhouse” on iTunes
Melanie Martinez is a remarkable 18-year-old artist from Long Island, New York – a stunning and provocative singer, songwriter and visual presence.  Her incredibly unique and arresting performances on The Voice (Fall 2012) brought her to #5 in the competition, yielded two Top Five songs on iTunes (“Seven Nation Army” and “Too Close cover), and earned her 92,000 Twitter followers and over 100,000 fans on Facebook. Her memorable audition/performance of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” has now garnered over six million views on YouTube. US Magazine says, “Melanie Martinez might be the NBC show’s first real breakout star.“

I love Melanie’s single “Dollhouse”! I was already interested in the song when I heard the title and when I listened to it I was completely won over.  I was a little apprehensive when the song first started but once it picked up steam it had me. The music video is amazing and I love the striking imagery she uses with the dollhouse. I’ve always had a love for darker songs and this is definitely a dark song. If the song doesn’t have any meaning behind it I’m usually not a big fan.

The Irrepressibles are the Art-Pop orchestra created by artist /composer / vocalist / multi-instrumentalist Jamie Irrepressible. On February 14th, The Irrepressibles will release their sexually charged work Nude : Viscera, the second of a three-EP trilogy expanding on their studio album, Nude. Listen to an exclusive stream from this EP entitled “Not Mine.”  Additionally, “Two Men In Love,” a track from Nude, is the music to a groundbreaking political pro-gay love dance video performed/edited by dancer Chaz Buzan.

After listening to some of The Irrepressible’s songs (and this is just first gush, I have not listened to the whole EP yet) is that it is very much mood music.  Just by the title alone you kind of get the impression that this work is for a slower pace and set the mood for an interesting evening and night.  Check out “Not Mine” and the video to “Two Men In Love” to get a taste for yourselves.

Adrian Delivers Her Album “Be Your Own Saviour”

ADRIAN RELEASES NEW ALBUM

BE YOUR OWN SAVIOUR

Soaked in dark grunge and 90’s alt rock, Adrian has the power trio of powerful female vocals, slick guitar notes and great production behind the release of her new album Be Your Own Saviour. The angst and aggression paired with her edgy style create an album that satisfies those looking for hard tunage with just a slight hint of appealing pop.

The album is a heavy rock journey of melancholy nostalgia with Adrian cooing against shaded guitar notes and gritty drum beats. Adrian, never one to leave a listener unelectrified, sewed her songs together and created a solid album that will leave grungy arena pop fans salivating for more.

“I have mixed feelings about Adrain. There are multiple elements of her music that I enjoy but I’m not sure if it vibes well all put together. Her song Bluespace was an instrumental song, which I have no problem with. The song just never really went anywhere, it got a little boring, to put it bluntly. Her other songs were a little hard for me to listen to as well. The music seemed to be fighting each other instead of complimenting one another. I wasn’t a big fan of the album cover either, it was a bit weird to me and didn’t make a lot of sense.”

-April B.

If you like the ’90’s grunge sound then Adrian might be one for you.  Check out her website and facebook page and check out her concert dates and listen to her live.

Electric Eye set to Play at SXSW

Electric Eye
Psych rockers Electric Eye band to watch for at Eurosonic and SXSW 2014

January 2014
Psych rock band Electric Eye from Norway set to play SXSW 2014

Hailing from Bergen, Norway, Electric Eye play droned out psych-rock inspired by the blues, India and the ever more expanding universe.

The four piece released their long awaited debut LP “Pick-up, Lift-off, Space, Time” in April 2013. The album received positive mentions in Norwegian media, which have spread to international blogs and radio stations. The album was a co-released in the US and the UK by Norway’s Klangkollektivet and London based Fuzz Club Records.

Throughout the fall of 2013, Electric Eye toured Scandinavia and Europe and were given rave reviews for their performance at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik.  The group continued on to headline the Oslo Psych Fest and were featured on the compilation LP released by Fuzz Club and Austin psych fest called “The reverb conspiracy vol.2”.
Highly recommended to fans of The Black Angels, Secret Machines and Spacemen 3.

Electric Eye will play Eurosonic Noorderslag on January 16th.  Be sure to catch the Norweigan psych rockers as they make their debut SXSW appearence in Austin this March!

“This four piece are all about long jams and pushing their rack of pedals to the limit. The bassline starts and weaves a hypnotic trance like rhythm while layers of otherworldly sounds are added resulting in one hell of a racket. I knew this band would be good having checked out their sounds on the internet before leaving home but I didn’t know they would be this good. Fantastic!”
-Emmett Mullaney, louderthanwar.com

“This is by far my favourite record of the week and Electric Eye is strongly becoming my new favourite band, I would highly recommend this to fans of the likes of Hookworms, Follakzoid or any other Sacred Bones stuff, absolutely marvelous!”
-Norman Records, Leeds, UK

Ep. 9 MiniPop: Phoenix Ash’s Indie Sound

Ep. 9 MiniPop: Phoenix Ash’s Indie Sound

We are back, with the first podcast of 2014.  Our 9th MiniPop starts the year off with Richard, April, Matt, and Chris discussing the sounds of the San Francisco based, J-Rock influenced Indie band, Phoenix Ash.

The band has one album to purchase now on their website, Transcend, and then when they finish releasing the singles from the current album, From Dust, it will be available to purchase as well to add to your library’s music collection.  After listening to the show I noticed that I had the opening and closing mixed.  Phoenix Ash’s “Amberglow” is the shows opening and then “Setsunai” is the shows closing.  I apologize for the mix-up and will have to take this as a learning tool to pay more attention to detail if I am putting a show together when I’m sick.

The ComicPop Crew also got to visit with the band about their music and you can listen to the “Visit” by the link here: http://comicpoplibrary.com/news/ep-19-comicpop-visits-with-the-indie-rock-band-phoenix-ash/
