Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) is announcing that the CBLDF’s annual will be available this October. Image Comics is producing the annual which will be a compilation by the industry’s best. Each story will be about how censorship is the ultimate bullying and how it needs to be defeated. All proceeds will go to the CBLDF to help fund their efforts to combat censorship. So this October help out for this special cause.
AMC’s site has the new teaser trailer for the second season of The Walking Dead. You can view the trailer below. However, it is a little brutal, but that’s kind of what you expect from this type of show.
Librarians that have gamers as patrons will want to let them know about this or use it for talking points. 2K Games will be releasing Darkness II, a Top Cow Comics property, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC. Scheduled release date is October 4, 2011, for North American markets and October 7, 2011 for worldwide release. Below is a trailer for the upcoming game, be warned it does contain violent images. Here is another contest that librarians can tell their patrons about. This contest is in conjunction with Image Comics and their new title Red Spike. To enter the contest all one has to do is puchase a copy of Red Spike, which is only $1.00 and take a picture of themselves holding it in front of their favorite comic book store. After taking the picture the individual will need to post it on Red Spike’s Facebook fan page. The winner will then be drawn at random and they will recieve the original cover art of Red Spike done by Mark Texeira and a store will have a possbility of winning a piece of original interior art of the same title. ICv2 is reporting that Showtime has optioned Image’s Chew. Currently a script is being worked on. We’ll see if it actually makes it to the air waves. Link to the brief story below.
More and more comic books/graphic novels are being looked at for possible movies. The latest is Top Cow’s Crosshair, which has been picked up by Summit Entertainment. The story revolves around a former CIA assassin that is now a dad who finds out he has been programed to kill the president. The full article is linked below to ICv2’s site.
Here are four collected trades that libraries might be interested in. Incredibles, Vol. 5 is available from Boom Studios which would be a good addition to your library’s children graphic novel collection. DC has Noche Roja which would appeal to your crime fiction fans. However, Noche Roja is definitely one for the mature reader. Image is rolling out Morning Glories, Vol. 1 – For a Better Future which will appeal to your Teen/Young Adult readers. Morning Glories is set in a private high school academy with that touch of supernatural. The other title libraries might be interested in would be Fringe: Tales from the Fringe. This will be one of those editions that librarians can use to cross promote within your library between the TV series, books and graphic novels.
