Hawker M. James Full Moon Release

HAWKER M. JAMES (EX-LONGWAVE) PREMIERED BRAND NEW SINGLE “MANIFEST DESTINY” VIA AMERICAN SONGWRITER

TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE EVERY FULL MOON

FULL LENGTH RELEASE BY END-OF-YEAR ENTITLED “PHASES”

Last Sunday, on the full moon, Hawker M. James (formerly Mike James/Mikey Jukebox, mastermind behind Admirers and The Mercies, one-time Longwave drummer), a prolific singer/songwriter known in part for his DIY production ethic, released a brand new single entitled “Manifest Destiny” exclusively with American Songwriter. A new single will be released on the full moon of each month and this will be the third of 12 tracks to be placed on a full-length album entitled Phases to be released by Ardent Music at the end of the year.
On last January’s full moon, Hawker M. James, released “These Hands Are Made Of Fire a pure indie rock track with just a hint of Manic Street Preachers and Guided By Voices.  Last month, Hawker released “I Need Your Love!” co-written with former Longwave bandmate Steve Schiltz and was exclusively premiered on Buzznet.
Check them out you can’t beat the price and I think you will more than likely like the sound.  It kind off has that summer beach feel to it for me.

Constantine First Image

This is the first shot of Matt Ryan in the traditional Constantine attire for the NBC pilot.  I remember Matt Ryan from his stint on Torchwood.  When you think about it, it’s kind of odd that the BBC never went after this property (and maybe they did and I don’t know about it) they would have done it up good.  I hope NBC will do it right.  Thanks to ICv2 for the image and you can read more here at their link: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/28126.html

Veronica Mars Trailer

Out of all the movies I was interested in this weekend Veronica Mars is only getting a limited release.  I would be shocked if it comes to my part of the country.  We’ll check just in case, but all you lucky ones that do get it I’m happy for you.  This was one of my wife and I’s favorite series.  Thanks to the “Veronica Mars” channel on YouTube for the following trailer:

Kansas Legislators consider Educator Punishment

Senate Bill 401 was proposed in response to controversy that erupted in January after a teacher put a sex education poster on a classroom door at a Shawnee Mission middle school in Johnson County. The poster, entitled “How do people express their sexual feelings?,” featured a list of 17 behaviors ranging from holding hands to sexual intercourse. A parent complained, the poster was removed, and the sex education program was suspended pending a review of the instructional materials.

SB 401 would remove an exemption in current law that protects materials that are part of “an approved course or program of instruction.” As a result, teachers may be held accountable for accidental exposure to materials deemed offensive or even for the use of traditionally accepted educational materials — such as Shakespeare’s plays, classical art and sculpture, and literature — if someone in the community decides the content is offensive.

Advocates for the bill argue that a clause defining offensive material as anything a “reasonable person would find that the material or performance lacks serious literary, scientific, educational, artistic or political value for minors” would protect most educational materials

Kind of a scary bill for Kansas Educators.  With this type of language an accidental showing of “offensive material” (which has a different meaning for each individual) could happen at a field trip to even the state capitol that has a bare breasted woman in a piece of art in the rotunda.

Thanks to Comic Book Legal Defense Fund for keeping an eye on this and Betsy Gomez for the article.  When more information is released I’ll post it.

Flash Arriving in Arrow

Here is the look of the upcoming Flash in Arrow.  It has been a while since we’ve seen Flash in a full body suit.  Smallville didn’t have him in a costume and if I remember right they actually said that was Impluse.  However, for those old enough or have seen the series from back in the 1990’s, I believe, will remember the Flash series and in it he had a full body costume.  The one above looks right for today’s looks.  Thanks to ICv2 for the heads up.

Rachael Sage New Single

Rachael Sage Rolling Out New Single & EP
Newly Confirmed Tour and Festival Dates for the Spring
Including SXSW

LISTEN TO EP TITLE TRACK “NEW DESTINATION”
Featured on American Songwriter
Title track “New Destination” drew inspiration from Carole King’s Broadway musical, “Beautiful.” After Sage left the show with an ‘I Feel The Earth Move’ feeling, she was determined to write an upbeat groove-tune on the piano with a classic, pop hook.
“One part Elton John, one part Kate Bush” (UNCUT), Sage has had an illustrious career as an independent artist, praised by the likes of The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and MOJO. Sage has shared the stage with Eric Burdon, Ani DiFranco, Marc Cohn, Sarah McLachlan, Judy Collins and Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey). Her songs have appeared on MTV, HBO, the “Fame” soundtrack, and the current season of Lifetime’s #1 reality series, “Dance Moms.” Sage has made a name for herself as one of the most active touring artists in indie music with her dynamic piano playing, delicate guitar work and soulful vocals. Billboard has said “her keen ironic sense of humor and quirky sense of the profound is what makes her special as a songwriter“ and RollingStone.com called her a “genuine talent.”
The beginning of Rachael’s song “New Destination” reminded me of something Sara Bareilles might put out and made me interested in what was coming next. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed in the song as a whole. Her voice seemed strangely soft and didn’t have any conviction to it-it didn’t sound like she believed whole heartedly in what she was singing. Her chorus was also anticlimactic to me and fell short.

-April B.
