Raw Fabrics Gives us “Down the Drain”

blackpandaPRraw fabrics

Raw Fabrics are an L.A.-based trio of 21-year-olds with an armload of anthemic songs that mix the driving bass lines of modern dance-punk bands with production sheen of modern radio bands.

Raw Fabrics music is unique in the best way possible. Their use of guitar and a kit mixed with a couple of other mixes sounds awesome and they should definitely stick to it. The lyrics are just as good and works really well with the instrumentals. From the catchy rhythm to unforgettable lyrics–Raw Fabrics has it all! I will keep a very keen eye out for this group and I think anyone who is a fan of music in general should too.

LP is different to say the least. After listening to her two new songs, “One Last Mistake” and “Tokyo Sunrise”, I have mixed emotions. I liked the instrumentals and the beginning of each song. They sounded awesome and I got into it quickly. My only negative might be her voice, she has a good voice but I don’t know if it suits this particular music style. To me it sounds strange with her instrumentals but I can tell she’s talented. Another minor detail that bugged me was the name LP. It sounds a lot like EP to me and I got really confused just trying to figure out the name she goes by.

April has not heard very much of Stevie Nicks.  LP’s voice really reminds me of Stevie Nicks’ voice.  The songs are good and if you like the Stevie Nicks feel you will like LP.  Give her a try and you can listen to her single “One Last Mistake” and “Tokyo Sunrise” from SoundCloud below. – Richard

Maudlin Strangers’ Remix of Bass Science’s Overdose

DEBUT EP COMING SUMMER 2014

Maudlin Strangers is the Los Angeles based solo project of Jake Hays, a multi instrumentalist/vocalist, who tracked, engineered, and produced his forthcoming Overdose EP all from his bedroom in Agoura Hills, CA. He creates haunting musical soundscapes you’ll never forget.

Maudlin Strangers’ highly anticipated debut EP will be out later this summer.

I was a little on the fence about Maudlin Strangers’ remix of “Overdose” but was soon run over. As soon as the lyrics came in with the slow, heavy bass I fell in love. The creativity and skills it takes to do a remix (a good one at that) is underappreciated. They give this song a breath of fresh air. I actually started looking for more of their music after listening to this. The lighter sounds on top of the bass gave it all more depth and made sure the listener never got bored. My only critique is the very beginning before the lyrics started; it doesn’t fit the song at all and sounds weird.

Pyramid Scheme’s Remix of Future’s “Move that Dope”

blackpandaPRpyramid scheme

A monumental year for Electronic Dance Music (EDM), 2013 saw artists like Martin Garrix and Disclosure zoom up the charts, and reclusive robots, Daft Punk, take home five Grammys for Random Access Memories.  But, this is a new year.

Enter Sterling Pike and Adam LaRossa.

Pike and LaRossa are the friends and Atlanta natives behind Pyramid Scheme, the electronic dance duo that is anything but a scam. Evidenced by tracks like Gotcha and Vladimir Putin, Pyramid Scheme creates an impressively high-energy, Big Room House sound that leaves listeners wanting much, much more.  With a forthcoming EP, a soon-to-be-released remix of Future’s Move That Dope and loads of talent, the dynamic duo is setting itself up to take over the club scene.

I’m kind of lukewarm when it comes to Pyramid Scheme. I wasn’t very impressed with their remix of Future’s “Move That Dope”. There was never a hook or beat I could get into and start moving to. The lyrics didn’t compliment the music either and everything felt too detached. Instead of the music working together and making the end result even better the music felt separated and edgy. Nothing went well together and seemed a little forced at times. There were a couple spots that I liked but overall I wouldn’t come back to this remix. They’ve got a lot of potential; they need to work on what they want their sound to be and make sure it all works well together.

-April B.

One thing I will mention that April didn’t is that the instrumentals.  If you just listen to the instruments, I do like the rhythm and beat.  I’d like to hear something else by them to compare later. – Richard

Shane Gamble a Country Singer to Watch

blackpandaPRshane gamble

Shane Gamble knows what he’s doing, even his name is awesome. Gamble is probably one of the coolest last names I’ve heard and it definitely sticks in your head. “Beautiful Work” is a pure country song that isn’t annoying. He’s got just the right amount of twang in his voice without sounding really bright and annoying. The song itself immediately gives off a good vibe from the start, it has a good beat and build up to the chorus. The hook is great and his lyrics tell a clear story that I can understand. I love this song, especially during the breakdown towards the end of the song. I’m looking forward to seeing what else he’ll come out with and I’m almost positive any country fan will too.

Siren’s “I Think I like You” Debut Single

ELECTRO POP DUO
REACH #1 ON HYPE MACHINE POPULAR CHARTS
WITH DEBUT SINGLE

OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR BUZZED ABOUT SINGLE
Based in Los Angeles, CA, SIREN is an emerging female duo featuring longtime friends, Kat Ostenberg and Skyler Stonestreet. Blending a pop sound with elements of hip hop, and evocative lyrics that reveal a unique perspective, SIREN will entice you into their world. “I Think I Like You” produced by Mike Del Rio is pop gold.
‘I Think I like You’ is a mixed review for me. I loved the sharper instrumentals contrasting with the smoother tone of the vocals. It has a definite new age feel to it which I personally enjoy. My only complaint are the lyrics themselves. The lyrics are too simplistic, music should be deeper than just telling someone it’s complicated. There are so many more poetic ways to get that message across than just saying it outright. I know some people don’t like that much poetry-including me- but songs beg for it. It’s one of the few forms of poetry I like. If Siren could dig a little deeper with their future songs and really leave all of themselves on the score sheet they would be unstoppable.

McKellar Serves Up Some Scottish Rock

SCOTTISH ROCKER
EILIDH MCKELLAR
Exclusive Premiere of New Video for “Hold Steady” via Never Enough Notes
Available NOW on iTunes
“Hold Steady” and Major UK Tour Featured on The Rocker
Debut Album DELTA DEVIL DREAMS Coming Later 2014

“Cool as a cucumber, Eilidh plays like a seasoned veteran, and some of what she does on her solo here is scarcely credible, considering her tender years. No silly overplaying,
just quiet confidence and genuine virtuosity.”

Eilidh has a really good quality voice for the rocker scene. With that said, I wonder if she has the intensity and drive to back it up. Her song “Hold Steady” seamed to drag a bit, I was waiting for the kick and it never came. Her style reminds me of something Jack White would put out. The difference between the two is that Jack always has something interesting going on with either the vocals or instrumentals at all times. Eilidh’s song seemed to fall flat and became a little repetitive to me. I am very interested in where she’ll go and how her music will evolve.

This is Just The Beginning of
The End of the Beginning

for San Francisco’s Solwave

I love the soul feeling I get from the first notes, it instantly puts me in the right mood. I love the lyrics and voice quality of Joe Collins’ voice. It reminds me a bit of the 50s when he spreads his vowels out more and goes into his higher register. The instrumentals aren’t lacking either. The percussion is to die for and the bass has a great feel to it. Every part is solid and works together like a well oiled soul train. I’m definitely going to be listening to this group more often.

Melanie Martinez’ Debut Single Dollhouse

DARK POP BREAKOUT STAR
MELANIE MARTINEZ
RELEASES VIDEO
 “Dollhouse” on iTunes
Melanie Martinez is a remarkable 18-year-old artist from Long Island, New York – a stunning and provocative singer, songwriter and visual presence.  Her incredibly unique and arresting performances on The Voice (Fall 2012) brought her to #5 in the competition, yielded two Top Five songs on iTunes (“Seven Nation Army” and “Too Close cover), and earned her 92,000 Twitter followers and over 100,000 fans on Facebook. Her memorable audition/performance of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” has now garnered over six million views on YouTube. US Magazine says, “Melanie Martinez might be the NBC show’s first real breakout star.“

I love Melanie’s single “Dollhouse”! I was already interested in the song when I heard the title and when I listened to it I was completely won over.  I was a little apprehensive when the song first started but once it picked up steam it had me. The music video is amazing and I love the striking imagery she uses with the dollhouse. I’ve always had a love for darker songs and this is definitely a dark song. If the song doesn’t have any meaning behind it I’m usually not a big fan.

4e releases “swf+”

I love “Swift”! I was immediatly moving with it and can easily see this being played in a club. The hard bass and slower tempo mixes for perfect slow-grinding music. I would put this song up there with “Wicked Games” by The Weekend for slow club music. I’m definintley coming back to this song!

This is 4e’s premiere of their new track “swf+” at the 405.  They plan on releasing an EP entitle f0revr in March.  Until then check out “swf+”.
