Magic Tree House Anime

This will be something to catch the eye of librarians.  Anime News Network, linked below, is reporting that Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House has been green-lit to be an animated film.  If everything moves forward without any complications the article says that the film will be released in Japan in 2012.  This is one that I would say will be translated for the U.S. market.  This will be a great promotional tool when it does hit the U.S. to make displays featuring it and the children book series by Osborne to encourage more readership for the series.

DVD Release of Interest

Here are two DVD’s that will be of interest to libraries this week that are comic/animation related.  The first is AMC’s Walking Dead Season 1, the adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Image series Walking Dead.  This will definitely appeal to your zombie fans.  If your library happens to have the collected editions of the comic book series it would be a great tie-in promotional.  The other DVD is a little bit more kid friendly.  Disney is bring over Studio Ghibli’s adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin’s Tales from Earthsea. Again this DVD can provide a tie-in promotional to LeGuin’s novels.

Free RPG Day June 18, 2011

Libraries that have a lot of interest in Role Playing Games might want to pass this along to their patrons.  Free RPG Day is on June 18, 2011.  This is a less known event than Free Comic Book Day, but your patrons might visit their local comic book stores to see if they are participating in this event.  If their store doesn’t participate they might want to encourage the store to participate in future Free RPG Days.  The link below is to the main website for Free RPG Day.

Here is another contest that librarians need to let their anime and manga patrons know about.  TokyoPop is having a contest on their Facebook page.  They are trying to get to 100,000 fans on their page.  Guidelines for the contest is also on their webpage.  Let your patrons know so they can check out the company’s Facebook page and possibly win some swag.

Anime Cons!

Here are some Anime Conventions that librarians might pass along to their patrons that live close to the area.  A Con is an experience unto itself so if you have any patrons that have not been to one let them know about these three up-coming Cons: Anime Matsuri, March 18-20, in Houston, Texas; Zenkaikon March 18-20, in Philadelphia, PA; and Mega Con, March 25-27 in Orlando, Florida.  Links to each Cons homepage are below so be sure to share them with your patrons.
