We are just having fun reviewing and discussing comic books, graphic novels, manga, anime/animation, music and movies that we have recently read, listened to or watched.
This would be so cool to attend, but alas I won’t be able to. If you happen to be in Japan on July 20th, you might want to look into it. On July 20, the Japan Screen Music Symphony Orchestra will be in concert to share how music is one of the driving forces in anime. Selections will come from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Attack on Titan, Neon Genesis Evangelion and other lesser know anime. The concert will be held at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo.
The retailer Rakuten in offering three separate bottles of champagne that anime fans would love to have. The three bottles are Evangelion Brut Champagne, from the champagne region of France, made by Cattier. Each bottle has a separate etched image of Rei, Kaworu, and Asuka, and they are embedded with a Swarovski crystal. One bottle has a suggestion price of 31,500 Yen ($305). So if you want one of each it is going to cost you a pretty penny, but it is kind of cool, just not within my budget.
If you want to make a small statement about your Evangelion fandom and have the extra money lying around this could be for you. The Eva Store is selling gloves, knit caps, and hoodies (pictured above), for the Winter season, that are Eva Unit themed. The gloves and caps are 6,090 yen ($61) a piece and the hoodies are 5,040 yen ($51).
Pacific Rim hits theaters this week. Looks to be cool, but most of your Japanese Manga and Anime fans are going to look at this and say it looks very familiar. This movie is very reminiscent of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which at one point was vying for a live action movie. Thanks to “WarnerBrosPictures” on YouTube for the following trailer:
Is this a case of anime inspiring fashion? Could be. The first picture above is of the character Rei Ayanami, from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, while the second picture is of model Jourdan Dunn, at the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. You can tell that Dunn’s outfit resembles the plugsuit of the Rei character. Kind of a cool nod to have the fashion designer do this and it makes you wonder if as designers shift to younger individuals what will be the inspiration that they pull from. Dark Horse’s site has a contest that librarians will want to let their anime and manga patrons know about. It is an easy contest were you have to make a reply to the blog on which character you like in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Then Dark Horse will pick a winner from all of the replies.
