Magic the Gathering latest “Battle for Zendikar”
If you purchased any of the last Magic: the Gathering set Battle for Zendikar you helped Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro have the strongest launch of a Magic set according to ICv2 and Hasbro’s CEO Brian Goldner. Magic is a strong product at the moment and I don’t think it will slow down any time soon. Some of our friends are Magic players/collectors and we want to wish them a fun time at the tournaments or pickup games they play.
New Magic Duel Deck
For all you Magic the Gathering fans you’ll want to set your calendar for March 14. Wizards of the Coast is expected to release Magic the Gathering Duel Decks: Jace vs. Vraska. The sets will have 10 rare cards and alternate foil art cards of the Mythic rare cards “Jace, Architect of Thought” and “Vraska the Unseen”. The suggest price will be $19.99. This would be a nice addition to your Magic collection and/or trading card game collections.

The set will have 249 cards which will be available in Booster Packs, Intro Packs, Event Packs, Booster Battle Packs and Fat Packs. Wizards of the Coast is also planning to help sponsor some pre-release events January 26 and 27. So TCG gamers might want to check out their local gaming store to see if they will be hosting one of these events.
New TCG for Marvel
This might be one Trading Card Game libraries will be interested in that have gaming collections and tournaments. Upper Deck is working on a Marvel Universe deck building game. It is being designed by Devin Low, formerly of Magic: The Gathering. This game is fairly familiar in that players will battle each other, but it has one twist, the game itself has built in villains that attack the players trying to destroy them. No release date is scheduled yet and the working title is Legendary.
Magic Cards with Comics
Remember to let your TCG fans about the Magic the Gathering, Wizard of the Coast, cards that are packed with IDW’s Magic the Gathering mini series. The cards are pictured above, “Electrolyze” and “Feast of Blood” respectfully.
New Art Book
Paizo Publishing is releasing Visions of War: The Art of Wayne Reynolds, May 15, 2012. Most of your library’s patrons will recognize him from artwork he has done for Dungeons & Dragons, World of Warcraft and Magic: The Gathering. This would be a great art book, to pre-order for your collection, that will interest your fantasy readers, art enthusiasts and the gamers. The suggested price is $29.99 (ISBN 978-1601254252).
Magic the Gathering Promo Card
Librarians let your gamers know that in the second issue of the new Magic the Gathering comic book series, published by IDW Publishing, will have a game card with the comic. Most of your serious Magic players will probably know this, but it can still be used as a talking point.
New Magic Cards
Here is something you can relay to your patrons that enjoy gaming. Wizards of the Coast will be releasing the Magic the Gathering Innistrad set September 30. The set will have 264 cards, which will be double faced. The main thing though you will want to tell your patrons about is that some stores will have pre-release parties on September 24 and 25. At these events participants will receive a “Mayor of Avabruck/Howlpack Alpha” promo card and an “Achievement” card, while supplies last. So tell them to check with their local store to see if their store will be participating in this pre-release event.
