Kodansha Comics now Digital

If you like your manga and comics in the digital format here is good news for you.  Kodansha Comics has made a deal with Comixology to distribute 350 titles on their digital platform, to include titles such as Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail.  Enjoy all that reading!

Kodansha USA Donates to NY Library

Here, Here to Kodansha Comics USA branch.  The company took it upon themselves to help out the Queens library by donated Manga to the library as part of the libraries efforts in recovering from Hurricane Sandy.  Classy move Kodansha.

Kumi Shimizu said regarding the donation, “We, the Kodansha USA Group, are delighted to donate our books to help local libraries recover from the damage suffered during Hurricane Sandy. The Japanese people will never forget all the help that the United States provided when Japan was devastated by the Great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami which took place on March 11, 2011, and we’d like to take this opportunity to repay your generosity. The books are our silent ambassadors. And we hope everything is restored as soon as possible, and that the people of Queens enjoy our books.”

xxxHOLIC Cafe

 

The Pasela Resorts cafe, in Tokyo’s Shibuya ward has transformed a part of their cafe into a xxxHOLIC themed cafe to kick off the debut of the xxxHOLIC live action Television Series.  January 21 – March 3 the cafe will have a themed xxxHOLIC themed menu and those that order off of the special menu will receive one of six limited original coasters, that can be seen above.  If you happen to be in Japan during this time on vacation this could be one of your stops in Tokyo.  Pictures were provide from Kodansha’s Young Magazine and AnimeNews Network.  For additional pictures follow the link.

CBLDF Manga Giveaway

Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is having a table in Manga Artist Alley at the New York ComicCon this weekend.  If you happen to be attending, stop by their booth.  When an individual signs up and becomes a member you will be entered into a daily manga giveaway.  Donors of some of the prizes are Viz Media, Seven Seas, Vertical, Yen, Dark Horse, DMP, Kodansha, and ALC/Yuricon.  So everyone join a worthy cause and possibly win some manga.

Boston is having a Party

AnimeNews Network is reporting that the comic book store Comicopia in Boston is having a midnight release party on September 13.  The party is for the release of two Sailor Moon titles from Kodansha Comics: Sailor Moon and Codename: Sailor V.  If any of your patrons live in Comicopia’s area let them know about this and have fun with fellow fans.

TokyoPop Closing North American Doors

ICv2 is reporting that TokyoPop will be closing its doors May 31st.  This will be a blow to the manga publishing industry.  TokyoPop cited recent economic hardships, the Borders’ bankruptcy and Kodansha expanding their relationship with Random Books/DelRey.  How this will effect release dates on titles has not yet been determined.  Follow the links below for the full article on the closing and the second link to Stu Levy’s statement on TokyoPop’s closing.
