Black Butler Trailer

Black Butler is a manga series by Yana Toboso and is being release by Yen Press.  Great news for the fans of the series in a since.  The live action Black Butler is set to be released in Japan, January 18, 2014.  The film stars Hiro Mizushima as Sebastian and Ayame Goriki as Shiori, Sebastian’s newest master.  The movie is set 130 into the future of the manga series so it is not a straight up adaptation, but could be looked at as a future story for the series.  It depends on how one looks at the film.  Since Warner Bros. is involved with production I would think that this movie will eventually make it to the North American market either as a dubbed or at least a subtitled movie.  Thanks to “NatashaJapan” on YouTube for the following trailer:

Move Fast to See the Evangelion Exhibit

And yet another cool exhibit in Japan.  This time it is in Tokyo.  In Matsuya Ginza they are having a 1,300 piece exhibit for Evangelion, which coincidentally has a store there for you to purchase your Evangelion merchandise.  In the 1,300 piece exhibit visitors will be able to view original drawings, storyboards, landscape layouts, video screens, and life size figures.  But with this one you will have to hurry.  The exhibit ends August 26.  So if you happen to be in the area get there before the week is over.  The exhibit is open from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., with an entrance fee of 1,000 yen ($10) for adults, 700 yen ($7) for college and high school students and free to junior high students and younger.  I hope whoever can make it can.

Another Awesome Display in Japan

The broadcast station WOWOW has been displaying a full-size VF-25 Valkyrie at the Minatomirai station in Yokohama.  WOWOW is doing this in conjunction with the station’s first time to air The Super Dimension Fortress Macross in HD.  Everyone that goes through Minatormirai station is greeted, by this wow factor until September 2.  If you happen to be near the station check it out.

One Piece Ice Cream Makers

If you are in Japan and are a One Piece fan you might want to stop by a Kentucky Fried Chicken.  For a limited time when you purchase certain combo meals you can receive a One Piece ice cream maker.  The ice cream makers have images of: Luffy; Chopper; and the Straw Hat Crew.  I still love how companies in Japan have fun with their popular culture figures.

This is Why I Love Japan

Schick is teaming up with the Evangelion movies to give away 10,000 Hydro 5 Razors.  The winners will be randomly drawn today through July 29.  The event is being called “1-Man-Nin Sokai Sakusen” (Operation: Refresh 10,000).  A commercial was even made for it featuring Gendo and Kaji, from Evangelion.  Check it out below.  Thanks to “JapanSchick” on YouTube for the video:

MicroSoft and Production I.G. Promotional

MicroSoft began streaming a three minute short featuring Production I.G.’s Ghost in the Shell property.  The short is in conjunction with the release of Ghost in the Shell Arise.  The short, entitled Ghost in the Shell Arise: Another Mission, is a dialogue and features almost every character from the series and of course MicroSoft’s Surface tablet.  The Ghost is the Shell Arise series will debut in Japan on June 22 and will have four parts.  Then on July 26 the movies will be available on Blu-ray and DVD.  With Ghost is the Shell being popular I would expect the Blu-ray and DVD set will arrive in the North American market toward the end of the year. Very cool cross promotional.

Captain Harlock Live Action Movie

Another older manga and anime is getting the facelift treatment in Japan, from Toei Animation.  This time it is Leiji Matsumoto’s Captain Harlock.  Hopefully this will become available in the North American market.  It is set to debut in Japan September 7.  Thanks to AnimeNews Network for the heads up and “animeanimeno1” on YouTube for the following trailer:
