IDW has announced that it has reached an agreement with Amazon to start releasing it’s graphic novels on the Kindle Fire. Only ten are available at this time, some of the titles are: Locke & Key, Vol. 1; Last Unicorn; and Parker: Hunter. Use the link below to get the other titles.
Magic Cards with Comics
Remember to let your TCG fans about the Magic the Gathering, Wizard of the Coast, cards that are packed with IDW’s Magic the Gathering mini series. The cards are pictured above, “Electrolyze” and “Feast of Blood” respectfully.
Magic the Gathering Promo Card
Librarians let your gamers know that in the second issue of the new Magic the Gathering comic book series, published by IDW Publishing, will have a game card with the comic. Most of your serious Magic players will probably know this, but it can still be used as a talking point.
Red Shirt Contest
IDW Publishing is having a contest in conjunction with Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF). To enter the contest a fan will need to e-mail a 300 word or less explanation of how their retailer is the best and how they would sacrifice themselves defending them to contest@IDWPublishing.com. The winning fan, along with their retailer, will be depicted on a variant cover of IDW’s Star Trek. The fan, retailer and CBLDF will each receive 100 copies of the variant cover. CBLDF will be able to use their copies to assist in future fund raisers. The winning fan will also receive the original art by the Sharp Brothers.
True Blood Keeps Going
IDW is shifting it’s HBO based True Blood series from a mini-series title to an ongoing title. So fans of the HBO True Blood series will be able to get a monthly dose of their favorite show.
IDW Gets Spec. Ops. Mission
IDW is publishing a hard cover graphic novel over the events of Code Name: Geronimo which will also be the graphic novels title. The graphic novel will be written by Captain Dale Dye (USMC, Retired) & Julia Dewey Dye, Phd. (Military History,Anthropology). The art will be done by Gerry Kissell & Amin Amat. The scheduled release date is September 6th for $14.99, with a portion of each sale going to the American Veterans Center.
SDCC Locke & Key Screening
If you or one of your patrons happens to be going to the San Diego Comic-Con you can pass this along to them. On July 22nd, Friday of the Con, at 10:30 a.m., in room 8, a screening of the pilot for Locke & Key and then a panel afterwards with author Joe Hill and IDW’s Chris Ryall will be held. This might be the only chance to see Locke & Key since the Fox network didn’t pick it up as a series and no other networks have looked at it either.
Battleship Galaxies will come with a Graphic Novel
ICv2’s site, linked below, is reporting that the new Battleship Galaxies boardgame, by Hasbro, will come with a graphic novel, printed by IDW Publishing. Librarians will definitely want to alert their patrons that are gamers, but their patrons that are into comic books and graphic novels might not be aware that the game will come with a graphic novel introduction to the Battleship Galaxies universe and game. This will also be a good talking point for librarians for both types of patrons to start a conversation.
Second Witch & Wizard GN
IDW’s site is reporting that the second volume of Witch & Wizard will be available this week. So any library that has patrons that are fans of James Patterson’s books will be interested in this. This is an original full color story, so readers of Witch & Wizard will want to read this hard cover graphic novel. The full title is James Patterson’s Witch & Wizard, Vol. 2: Operation Zero, ISBN is 978-1-60010-890-7 at $17.99.
Last Unicorn Event
Attention librarians in the Emeryville, California area. On March 29th at the Emeryville Barnes & Noble, Peter S. Beagle will be signing his Last Unicorn graphic novel beginning at 7:00 p.m. Let all your patrons know so they can go out and support the medium. Libraries could also take this opportunity to get your own copy of the Last Unicorn graphic novel signed. IDW’s site is linked below for more information.
