Check Out Velica, Looks Interesting

Thanks to Stacey Aragon for getting in touch with us about this great looking UK comic.  The comic is Ken Johnson’s Velica and follows this young women who is seeking revenge for her father’s death.  Just by looking at some of the images online it is similar to a Punisher/Jennifer Blood titles.  For me this is in my wheel house that I love.  I want to get my hands on the six issues that have been printed in the UK, that would be great.  But if nothing else on the Team Velica website they have informed everyone that a deal has been signed with Strick 9 Label and Toledo Publishing Group of Chicago, Illinois, to reprint the first six issues for the U.S. market.

Episode 9 of ComicPop Visits –  We are back at Exploraiton Place visiting with Christina Bluml, Marketing Director.  Christina discusses Exploration Place’s latest traveling exhibit Animation featuring the Cartoon Network.  Be sure to stop by Exploration Place to enjoy this interactive exhibit which is fun for all ages, it will be in Wichita until April 28.  With Spring Break coming up in March this would be a great stop.  Now enjoy the show!

Gangnam Style Baby!

 

Hey guys!!!! I just found this video on one of my friend’s facebook page and loved it. 🙂 Even without understandin a word of it I’m still addicted.Haha get ready for Gangnam time!   The video is of PSY’s song Gangnam Style put up on YouTube by officialpsy, it’s pretty fun to watch and I promise you’ll get addicted…everyone else has! “Like”, Free Speech?

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund website has an article by Becca Hoekstra about Facebook “Like”s.  In Hampton, Virginia six employees of the sheriff’s department were fired for supporting an opposing candidate in an upcoming sheriff election.  Three employee’s were dismissed because of “Liking” the opposing sheriff candidate.  The employee’s took the issue to the courts and a U.S. District  judge determined that “‘liking’ a Facebook page was insufficient speech to merit constitutional protection”.  Facebook and the ACLU are challenging this decision that “Liking” on Facebook should be consider free speech, under the U.S. Constitution.  Read the full article at the link below:

100,000 Fans Contest

Here is another contest that librarians need to let their anime and manga patrons know about.  TokyoPop is having a contest on their Facebook page.  They are trying to get to 100,000 fans on their page.  Guidelines for the contest is also on their webpage.  Let your patrons know so they can check out the company’s Facebook page and possibly win some swag.
