Schick is teaming up with the Evangelion movies to give away 10,000 Hydro 5 Razors. The winners will be randomly drawn today through July 29. The event is being called “1-Man-Nin Sokai Sakusen” (Operation: Refresh 10,000). A commercial was even made for it featuring Gendo and Kaji, from Evangelion. Check it out below. If you are planning a trip to Japan or live there you will want to check out you local planetariums. The Konica Minolta Planetarium Company is sponsoring a Summer One Piece Planetarium event. The planetariums that are participating will have One Piece characters during their sessions. Nami will navigate visitors around constellations, meteors, and auroras while Luffy, Usopp, Zoro, Sanji, and Franky will make interruptions. There will also be anime scenes interspersed during the show, which will last 35 minutes.
Two of the Planetariums will be Manten Planetarium in Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City shopping center July 13 – September 8 and at Tenku Planetarium July 20 – September 1. As mentioned earlier it will be at other planetariums so be sure to check them out and have some fun.
If you have been waiting for this company crossover the wait is over. Sanrio, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are teaming up to mash-up Hello Kitty with DC Superheroes. The product line is scheduled to be released next year.
Otakon has announce that it will feature an exhibit of original Rurouni Kenshin artwork of Nobuhiro Watsuki. Kaoru Kurosaki, the wife of Nobuhiro Watsuki, is the curator of the exhibit. So it you are in the Baltimore, Maryland area during Otakon and the exhibit (August 9 – 11) stop by to enjoy the artwork.
Shochiku, a film distributor, began streaming a trailer for Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (or Star Blazers to a large group of fans). Shochiku has distributing this anime series as a group of movies and is releasing the sixth movie June 15 entitled, Totatsu! Dai Magellan (Arrival! The Large Magellanic Cloud). Hopefully when all is said and done this remake will make its way to the North American market, because Star Blazers is still recognizable by many anime fans. If you are a Sailor Moon fan here is something you might enjoy. Bandai’s official shopping site, Premium Bandai is offering the above cosmetic. Bandai’s cosmetic branch Creer Beaute is releasing this “Shining Moon Powder” for Sailor Moon’s 20th Anniversary. The cosmetic is inspired from the Sailor Moon R’s Crystal Star Broach and retails for 3,980 yen (approximately $40.00).
This summer Universal Studios Japan is going for the first horror survival attraction in an amusement park with a Resident Evil attraction. What a blend horror and amusement. Anyway, the attraction will be called “Biohazard The Real”. The people going through the attraction will have a model gun to use against the zombies and one of the characters to take out will be a 6 1/2 foot tall Tyrant, made by Shinichi Wakasa. This sounds so cool, but I don’t think we will be getting anything like this in the U.S.
Aniplex of America representatives announced at the Anime Boston Convention that starting in August Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim Toonami block will begin airing Sword Art Online. The sets will be able to purchase through Right Stuf and Aniplex’s websites beginning August 13, the continuing on September 17, October 15, and November 19.
The J-Rock band ONE OK ROCK is contributing their song “Be the Light” as the theme song to the upcoming Captain Harlock CG film. They had previously contributed their song “The Beginning” to the live action film of Rurouni Kenshin. Thanks to AnimeNews Network for the heads up:
