Calvin Reid of Publishers Weekly has written an article about the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. It discusses the fund raising that the organization is doing and how comic books are being challenged in libraries or personally owned. Jump to the article with the link below.
CBLDF Liberty Trading Cards
Comic Book Legal Defense Fund’s website has articles about them and Cryptozoic Entertainment joining together to make a trading card set to help raise funds for the organization. Librarians should know that if you have comic book/graphic novel fans more than likely they like trading cards as well. The card set is supposed to be comprised of 70 base cards and will have additional chase subsets. There was no report as of yet how much these cards will be, but they should have a release date of July 2011. The first link is to the full article about the card set and the second link is two images of some of the chase cards that artists have done for the set. This could be a way for your patrons to give back to the medium that they love.

For all the libraries that have anime and manga fans more times than not they are also TCG (Trading Card Game) fans. Pokemon, which turned 15 this year, has new decks coming out for 2011. Tell your TCG fans to begin watching for theme decks on April 6th and booster packs on April 25. Link below to the article at ICv2.
Lost Planet Manga
Here is another title for librarians to keep their eyes out for when it is translated in English. The first compiled book of Takeshi Miyazawa’s Lost Planet: Bound Raven is being released this week. This will be a great crossover book for Teen/Young Adult librarians to use to get some of your library’s gamers into graphic novels. Since it is based on a video game I’m pretty positive this will be adapted for the English audience. Follow the link back to Anime News Network for the short article.
Arakawa to Create New Title
Anime News Network is reporting that Hiromu Arakawa, creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, will have a new title begin in the 19th issue of Shonen Sunday on April 6th. The site did not have the title of the new title, however as popular are Fullmetal has been in the States you can bet that a distributor will pick up this new title of Arakawa’s when it becomes available. Librarians don’t have to worry about this now, but keep it in the back of your mind for in the future. Link to the article below.
X-Men Anime Redue
Marvel’s website has placed the X-Men Anime trailer up on their site to share. Now you can just click on the link below without going to another webpage to see the trailer. Again I would expect this to eventually hit our shores and when it does it would be a cool addition to your anime collection.
