Butchering a Game

This one got by me last year.  Librarians will want to use this as a cross promotional tool, unless they already are.  Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files was made into an RPG  in 2010 and had two supplements, through Evil Hat Productions.  There is another supplement slated for this year.  The game was introduced at the Origins Game Fair in 2010 and was a surprise hit and the two supplements were nominated for Origin Awards in their respected section.  Let your patrons that enjoy gaming know about this title and as I stated you can use it as a cross promotional tool to the books and graphic novels within your libraries.  Follow the link to read the full article at ICv2.

Marvel gets Castled

Librarians take note that your DVD collection well be able to cross over with your graphic novel collection again.  Marvel and the ABC network, both Disney properties, have announced that a Castle graphic novel is in the works.  It is slated to be a 112 page hardcover and to be released September 28.  As librarians know this is not to far out there.  The Castle television series, centered around a novelist Richard Castle played by Nathan Filion, has already produced two novels written by “Richard Castle” (Ghost written of course).  Link below to ICv2 for the full article.

New Business Model….Will it Catch On?

ICv2’s site is reporting that UDON Entertainment is changing it’s business model.  UDON will no longer publish individual (floppy) comic book issues.  They will be publishing their properties in the graphic novel format only.  Could this be a sign of things to come from other publishers?  With everyone looking at the economy, I bet other publishers will be paying attention to the outcome of what UDON is doing.

Some Scary Stuff

Follow the link below for the full interview of Tom Neely and Dylan Williams experience with border officers going into Canada and two of the comic books they had in their possession.  Freedom of Speech and Expression, even though I don’t appreciate some content in the variety of types of media (comic books, books, or movies), I support the artists right to express themselves.  That’s what makes the United States special.  But you should always remember when you enter a foreign country your native country’s rights don’t transfer with you to whichever country you are visiting.

Cutting up Comics?!

ICv2’s site is reporting that Upper Deck has collected older comics from Marvel’s past and are trimming out panels to attach to trading cards.  The set is call Marvel Beginnings Series 1.  This subset of cards is Marvel Ultimate Collection Panel Forms.  Even though they are cutting up comic books, shutter, I think this is a cool idea.  Let you patrons know about this new chase set built within the common cards of Marvel Beginnings.  I think most will enjoy it and might be the only way to own a piece of history like this.
