Tournament Numbers Up

Here is some interesting numbers for libraries that have gaming fans.  ICv2 spoke with Yumi Hoashi, VP of Konami Digital Entertainment, and she reports that Yu-Gi-Oh tournament participant numbers are up for 2011.  The Regional Qualifiers was up 27% and the Championship Series was up 17%.  This might be something to consider and possibly make libraries think about hosting game play for the different trading card games as events.

Time to Say Goodbye

ICv2 is reporting that the SyFy network has canceled season six of Eureka.  This has been one of the funniest SciFi shows that I have watched.  It’s sad to see that it is going.  Let’s just hope that all of the story lines will be tied up since they know season five is the last season.  The last part of season five will air in 2012.

Spidey is Really Amazing

Yes Amazing is part of the title of the Spider-Man comic book and the upcoming reboot set for a July 3rd, 2012 release date.  However, this movie is amazing in another way.  Without it even being released Sony has set the date for the Amazing Spider-Man sequel.  Sony has set the sequel date for a May 2nd, 2014.  Talk about planning ahead.

Going Into the Vault

ICv2 is reporting that Graham King’s GK Films and Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil has gotten the rights to Sam Sarkar’s The VaultThe Vault is a three issue treasure hunting story that is being published by Image Comics.  Movies and comics are moving at a fast pace anymore, because the rights, like for The Vault were optioned and the 1st issue isn’t even out or just barely out on stands.  It sounded interesting so I am picking it up to read.

World Cosplay Summit

Here is something you can tell your patrons that enjoy cosplaying.  Cosplaying might be dress-up for most people, however in the anime/manga conventions this hobby is taken very seriously.  The individuals that participate are very talented in costume making, a master level is when he or she actually designs and constructs all of their costumes.  If you have a patron that enjoys this hobby this will give them something to strive to attend in Japan.  Each year they have the World Cosplay Summit.  The summit is represented by 17 countries: Australia; Brazil; China; Denmark; Finland; France; Germany; Italy; Japan; Malaysia; The Netherlands; Mexico; Singapore; South Korea; Spain; Thailand; and The United States.  This year the winners were from Brazil.
