Laura Welsh’s “Unravel”

Continuing our infatuation with silky-voiced chanteuses, we’ve fallen head over heels for Laura Welsh. The track “Unravel” was produced by Dev Hynes, who works much of the same magic he does with Solange Knowles — it’s smooth, fragile and impossible not to listen to on repeat. The husky voiced Welsh sells the song impeccably, reminding us of the impossible suaveness of Jessie Ware and Solange all rolled up into one. Listen to the track above and then go over to Laura Welsh’sFacebook page for a free download.

Lady Lamb The Beekeeper’s – Rooftop

LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPERS RIPELY PINE

Aly Spaltro of Lady Lamb the Beekeeper has taken a mighty interesting path to where she is now as a musician. She hails from Brunswick, Maine, where she first started to write songs. Her strange and tangential melodies initially took form in the midst of a movie rental shop where she worked. Every night, she would lock the doors, pull out her guitar, and spend hours coming up with wildly unique songs, slowly creating a musical personality for herself. Its moniker very appropriately came to her during sleep; seeing it written down next to her bed the following morning, she knew it fit. Over her first five years of maturing as a musician, she recorded five full-length albums’ worth of songs — all strikingly raw, honest, and uninhibited. Today, Lady Lamb begins a new chapter with the release of her first studio-recorded album, Ripely Pine.

New Gods New Single

New Gods are the most recent Australian band blowing minds (and earphones) and their newest track “Razorblades” show the absolute best of the band and the spacey psych pop that they specialize in. Coming from the ashes of Little Red, the boys from New Gods play the kind of laid-back electro that we’ve come to love from the Melbourne scene – it’s breezy, loud and makes us really wish it were summer already. The video for the track is a kaleidoscope of images, matching the song perfectly. Check it out below and make sure to check out the rest of their self-titled EP, we promise it’s all just as good as this.

Haim Streaming New Song “Falling”

You should know HAIM by now. And if you don’t, you’re about to fall in love. They are three of the most badass chicks making music today, and they just happen to be sisters. HAIM began developing a huge following in 2012, and 2013 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for the band. They have just released their most recent single “Falling,” and with it you can rest assured that their forthcoming EP is going to be awesome.

AMV Spotlight of the Week

This week we get a look at “bat21wae” AMV.  The video takes the song “I Get Knocked Down” performed by Tubthumping and edits scenes from Eureka Seven around it.  The scenes that are picked work with the lyrics and the transitions are smooth.  The only thing negative about this video is that it has subtitles are the button and the location number in the top left hand corner of the video.  If these would have been edited out the AMV would be so much better.  If you can look past the subtitles and counter number this is a pretty good video.  You can watch it below or on YouTube under “Eureka Seven – I get knocked Down”:

AMV Spotlight of the Week

This week’s AMV Spotlight is on “Fenix86R”.  In this AMV, the individual takes the song “Bullet-Proof Skin” performed by Institute and edits in images from the Gatchaman OVA.  The editing is done nicely and the song works, but to be honest I chose this AMV because I’m a little biased toward Gatchaman.  When I was in elementary I would run home and watch Battle of the Planets.  At the time I was so young that I had no idea that it was a Japanese property.  Of course I know better now and anything that has any incarnation of Gatchaman hits my sweet spot.  Have fun watching the AMV below from “Fenix86R” on YouTube:
