Night Club Lives Up to the Name

musenightclub

Night Club is the duo Emily Kavanaugh, vocalist, and Mark Brooks, producer.  They have a Synth Pop Dance feel to their music.  You can here their music being played while you are out clubbing very easily.  The beats tell your body “get up and dance!” and if nothing else you will be nodding your head to it.  Having the duo cover INXS’ single “Need You Tonight” is completely appropriate.  They have played with the cover oh so little.  To me that makes this cover one of the better covers I’ve heard.  Don’t take my word for it.  The MuseBox is letting you listen to it below through SoundCloud – Richard

Get in the Grove with “Best Days of Our Lives”

Better Than All the Rest: Ajax Ray O’Vaque Reveals “Best Days of Our Lives” Single, Video
Anthony J. Resta’s alter ego launches first single from forthcoming Dreaming in Subtitles full-length out July 1st

The intro for Ajax’s “Best Days of Our Lives” was really cool, I really like the guitar part. I was kind of surprised when Ajax came in though, his voice is a little too high and airy for me to enjoy. I like all of the instrumentals and rhythms, they sound really awesome and the lyrics are really cool. His hook is good too and it gets in your head. The only thing I didn’t really like was, again, how high he sings. If he lowered it a bit I think I would enjoy it a lot more but I also know that there are people out there that will enjoy how the song is right now.

-April B.

When I hear this it takes me back to the ’50’s and ’60’s.  Especially the sound which takes me back to when the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, or any other surfing band would produce.  All the way from the rhythm of the music to the higher voices that was popular for male singers back then. – Richard

House of the Young Rising Sons: Dirty Canvas Music Launches Newest Band with Release of “High” Video

Artist development company headed by Shep Goodman and Aaron Accetta reveals next big roster addition

“High” from Young Rising Sons definitely got me high. From the very beginning I loved it, any type of whistling usually wins me over. The voice is great and the lyrics mean something. It’s hard to find that now. I already liked the song from the very beginning, but when the bass came in it was game over. I was completely in love with this song. Anyone who reads my reviews know how much I love bass and this is another example of just how awesome it can be. The bass transformed the song from an ok song into an awesome song. It’s that extra umph that’s really needed to make a song.

Bearstronaut’s are Landing at SXSW

Bearstronaut
Bearstronaut set to play SXSW March 2014

Whether on stage or on record, the Boston-based electronic-pop quartet has made a name in their hometown for sparking instant dance parties. Despite their Northeast origins, Bearstronaut has been dubbed “tank-top pop” due to their warm, tropical synth-pop sound – or as Interview Magazine put it, “a nimble sprint through tropical rhythms and beach-side dance party revelry.”

Bearstronaut recently performed the highly anticipated Boston Calling Music Festival alongside Solange, Kendrick Lamar, and Vampire Weekend.  They have also shared the stage with acts such as Passion Pit, fun., A-Trak, Bad Rabbits, St. Lucia, Body Language, the Shout Out Louds, Surfer Blood and Divine Fits.  Be sure to catch Bearstronaut at their SXSW performance in Austin!

DATE: Saturday March 8, 2014
TIME: 1-3PM
VENUE: Maggie Mae’s @ The Roof Top

I LOVE this group!! I love the hard driving bass and the electrifying techno they put on top was like the icing on the cake! I was immediately into their songs from the beginning and kept my attention the whole time. Their lyrics are awesome and I really like the retro feel to their music. The only thing I didn’t like was not getting to listen to this group sooner!

Silverlake Lounge Music Mondays

THE MUSEBOX PRESENTS
FREE MUSIC MONDAYS
AT SILVERLAKE LOUNGE

The MuseBox’s Free Music Mondays at Silverlake Lounge have been a blast thus far. Please join us for the last one of the month on September 30th, featuring Puro Instinct, Night Club, and Golden Gloves.

Puro Instinct creates dreamy, ethereal melodies not dissimilar to heavies of the past few decades (Cocteau Twins, Lush), but with the doomed worldview of today’s California, fallin’ into the sea, creeping ever so slightly in the background. They received Pitchfork’s vaunted Rising tag, and they’ve collaborated with local heroes like Ariel Pink, amongst others.

Night Club is an electronic pop duo from Los Angeles, CA that features Emily Kavanaugh (vocalist) and Mark Brooks (producer).  Although Brooks comes with a lengthy pedigree in performing/DJ-ing (Warlock Pinchers, Foreskin 500, Le Pimp and MegaJive), this marks Kavanaugh’s first entrance into performing, following in the steps of her father, Kevin Kavanaugh (keyboardist of the legendary New Jersey band Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes).

Golden Gloves is an LA-based musical project featuring Chris Norton and whoever else happens to be in the room at any given time. His live show features 808s and loud guitars.

Don’t miss it: come out to Silverlake Lounge on September 23, starting at 8pm. Oh, and did we mention it’s free? Because it’s totally, 100% FREE.

Throughout the night, we’ll be spreading the word about No Kill LA – every day pets need to find a permanent home, and every day No Kill LA works to make that happen.
