Torgny Hits with “Oil Panic” Album

Norway-native Tørgny is back again with his highly anticipated sophomore LP, Oil Panic. Officially out November 8.

The first single off Oil Panic is the funktronica of Grønn Extra, a heavy hitter that is sure to stick with you after your first listen. Inspired by childhood memories of electro and thriving 80s urban pop culture, Torgny says “with Grønn Extra, it seemed like the only way forward was to acknowledge the past.” Reminiscent of Prince’s Lady Cab Driver and Chromeo’s Needy Girl, Torgny’s powerful vocals expertly layer atop the original melody and meticulously crafted rhythms to set this song in a category all its own.

Listen to Grønn Extra here.

Torgny has this late 1990’s – early 2000’s feel to their song above Gr0nn Extra.  It made me remember things like the “Axel F Theme” from Beverly Hills Cop, with Eddie Murphy.  It’s nice to hear music with influences from the past and not just literally doing a cover, though if done right I love covers to.  Check Torgny out I above, I believe you will like the sound.

The Neighbourhood is: Jesse Rutherford (vocals), Jeremy Freedman (guitar), Zach Abels (guitar), Mikey Margott (bass) & Bryan Sammis (drums)
Looked like a the guys had a great time.  The music was flowing and the atmosphere, with the grey filter that was used, I really liked.  It made Jesse’s outfit stand out even more.  Congrats to the band and keep up the hard work.  Be sure to click the link above to see the live performance.

Julia Weldon’s latest Music Video

JULIA WELDON
PREMIERES NEW VIDEO FOR
“YOU NEVER KNOW”

“You Never Know” is one of themost vulnerable tracks on Julia Weldon’s sophomore album Light Is a Ghost.

Produced by Saul MacWilliams (Ingrid Michaelson, Dan Romer) and featuring Adam Christgau (Sia, Tegan and Sara) on drums, the album showcases Weldon’s storytelling, voice, and unmistakable charisma.

She draws on everything from indie folk to blues rock, dialoguing with current artists like Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, and Cat Power as well as legends like Bob Dylan, Elliott Smith and Suzanne Vega.

Julia Weldon’s possessing personality and captivating music crosses bridges and divides. With unfailing fingers, she tells stories that feel both intensely personal and widely universal. Unapologetically herself, Weldon’s songs grab you— asking you to pull up a chair, pour yourself a whiskey, and stay a while.

The song overall I liked.  I was a little zoned out at the beginning because the intro was a little too long and she didn’t actually start singing until a bet later than what I would’ve liked.  Be careful not to lose the audience.  I like that you went with a melodic song and really enjoyed the lyrics to.  I think the beginning of the video was really confusing and it could have been executed a bit differently.  Overall I think Julia has a lot of great things going for her and is looking at a bright future of growing and conquering.  April B.

Phildel is on a North American Tour

Phildel has a strong high voice.  Her style of music reminds me a little of Enya.  It is very melodic and has a mystical sound to it.  The videos carry that feel as well, especially with the black masks that the women wear. Check her tour dates below and be sure to mark you calendar for the date in your community.

Her debut album The Disappearance of the Girl, out now on Decca Records, won praise throughout the world, with the UK’s Clash Magazine calling it “an irresistible masterpiece.”
Phildel is pleased to have the opportunity to perform its songs, along with songs from her forthcoming EP The Glass Ghost, for North American audiences this November and December.

BETS’s sound encapsulates elements of musicians such as Lay Low, Feist, El Perro del Mar and Saint Vincent.  BETS worked with Espinoza and Murray who helped her produce the album.  Recording took place at The Ship studios in Eagle Rock, a haven of everything nautical, where Betsy feels “right at home” despite having no association to the sea!

New Gods Release Debut Album Beloved

New Gods Release Debut LP
Beloved OUT TODAY
23 October 2013

NEW GODS

HYPNOTIC, HYPNAGOGIC

DEBUT LP

BELOVED

OUT TODAY

Emerging from Melbourne, NEW GODS have justified their ironic band name in an entirely un-ironic way.  Their debut LP Beloved takes the best of 90s indie rock gods like Pavement and the Pixies, filtering it through the studio wizardry of Dave Fridmann and the tape-warp hallmarks of hypnagogic pop.  The result is truly unique.  Thematically coherent as it explores vast sonic territory, Beloved is a welcome left-field contender for the best album of the year.

EXPERIENCE BELOVED HERE

This is one of those groups that for me you would have to be in the mood for.  This isn’t one you would rock out to by any means.  This is one that you would put in on a lazy day or hazy day when the weather is dreary.  The group has a good sound, but in some songs the lead singer gets lost in the music and becomes muddy so you can’t quite understand him.  The interface above that they have with the release is really cool for us older listener’s (giving us a little feel of nostalgia).  I’m not sure if today’s crowd, unless they are into music, will appreciate the cassette reference.  The gallery is also a nice touch to give listeners a different experience.
