We are just having fun reviewing and discussing comic books, graphic novels, manga, anime/animation, music and movies that we have recently read, listened to or watched.
WizKids is planning on releasing Star Trek Fleet Captains gaming set. However, instead of having characters from the shows on stands they will have starships from the shows. Your gamers might be interested in this and I bet your patrons that are into Star Trek will definitely be interested in this new product.
ICv2’s site reports that WizKids will be releasing a new HeroClix six pack. The six pack is Watchmen Crimebusters Fast Forces 6-Pack and is scheduled for release on September 7, 2011. The characters in this six pack will be Rorschach, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, The Comedian, and pictured above, Dr. Manhattan and Silk Spectre. Let your gamers know and even you graphic novel readers know because Watchmen has always been a fan favorite in the comic book community.
Librarians that have gamers as patrons will want to let them know about this or use it for talking points. 2K Games will be releasing Darkness II, a Top Cow Comics property, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC. Scheduled release date is October 4, 2011, for North American markets and October 7, 2011 for worldwide release. Below is a trailer for the upcoming game, be warned it does contain violent images. This one got by me last year. Librarians will want to use this as a cross promotional tool, unless they already are. Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files was made into an RPG in 2010 and had two supplements, through Evil Hat Productions. There is another supplement slated for this year. The game was introduced at the Origins Game Fair in 2010 and was a surprise hit and the two supplements were nominated for Origin Awards in their respected section. Let your patrons that enjoy gaming know about this title and as I stated you can use it as a cross promotional tool to the books and graphic novels within your libraries. ICv2 has more gaming news with WizKids coming out with Gears of War 3 HeroClix. The gaming figures will be $2.99 per figure. WizKids is planning for an August 17th release date. Click on over to the full article and see more images of some of the gaming figures.
Cryptozoic Entertainment is planning on releasing the 15th World of Warcraft Trading Card Game expansion set for July. The set will be entitled “Twilight of the Dragons”. Be sure to pass along this information to your patrons that are into gaming. Link below to ICv2’s article.
Librarians let all your gamers know about this contest. Dark Horse is having another contest where two winners will win a signed copies of the Art of Alice book and lithograph. EA Games is helping co-sponsor this contest. Contestants will have to submit fan art by May 10th to be entered in the contest. Librarians that have gamers that come in can use this as talking points. HeroClix by WizKids have added the Street Fighter license to their HeroClix line. There will be a starter pack of six characters, for $19.99, and/or gamers can purchase individual packed figures, for $2.99. The single packaged figures are a new marketing strategy for WizKids which usually packages their gaming pieces four to a box. The line is slated to be available August 10, 2011. ICv2’s site, linked below, is reporting that the new Battleship Galaxies boardgame, by Hasbro, will come with a graphic novel, printed by IDW Publishing. Librarians will definitely want to alert their patrons that are gamers, but their patrons that are into comic books and graphic novels might not be aware that the game will come with a graphic novel introduction to the Battleship Galaxies universe and game. This will also be a good talking point for librarians for both types of patrons to start a conversation.
