ICv2 is reporting that TokyoPop will be closing its doors May 31st. This will be a blow to the manga publishing industry. TokyoPop cited recent economic hardships, the Borders’ bankruptcy and Kodansha expanding their relationship with Random Books/DelRey. ICv2 is reporting that the bankruptcy of Borders is negatively effecting TokyoPop. TokyoPop stated that Borders owed the company and has placed them in the difficult position of having to layoff employees to help balance the losses that they have because of Borders actions.
