FUNimation has released Part 1 & 2 of Hero Tales to DVD. Libraries that have fans of Fullmetal Alchemist will want to pick this up. The mangas are both written by Hiromu Arakawa and one can tell by the character artwork that it is by the same creator.
2011 Eisner Nominees
The Will Eisner Award Nominees for 2011 have been announced. Check out the link below for the full listing of nominees. The awards will be announced at ComicCon. As librarians tend to do when something wins an award, this can be used, as a promotional tool, to strengthen your graphic novel collections.
Thor: Tales of Asgard Animated Movie
Thanks to Marvel for posting a clip to the upcoming Thor: Tales of Asgard. This animated, straight to DVD/Blu-Ray, movie is slated for a May 17 release date. Libraries that have fans of Thor and animation in general will want to let them know about the new movie and if your library will be getting it so they can keep an eye for when it hits your shelves.
Directing Deadpool
ICv2’s site has a brief article, linked below, about the possibility of a Deadpool movie. 20th Century Fox is moving ahead with X-Men Origins: Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds is still slated to play Wade Wilson (Deadpool) as he did in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, the new information that Fox has released is that, at this time Tim Miller has been tapped to director the Deadpool movie, in his directorial debut.
The Next General Zod
According to Yahoo Movies, Michael Shannon will be playing General Zod in the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel feature film. With General Zod being the villain, this movie could shape up to be pretty decent. Linked below is the Yahoo article.

Creepy Contest
Librarians with patrons that are into the comic book scene will want to tell them about this contest. On Dark Horse’s site they are having a contest for three people to win a copy of Creepy Archives Volume 9. Linked below is the blog for the contest. Just leave a scary post, with a link to your Facebook account, and your name will be entered into the contest. The post needs to take place before April 14. Then Dark Horse will draw three random people that posted to win the Archive.
Priest Film Animated Prologue
ICv2’s site reports and has provided the clip below that the new Priest feature film has an animated prologue done by Genndy Tartakovsky, who is known for his work on Samurai Jack and The Clone Wars micro-series. Link to the article and watch the clip below.
A New Crow takes Flight
ICv2’s site, linked below, is reporting that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of 28 Weeks Later, is taking the helm of a new Crow, created by James O’Barr, feature film. The new verision is in production by Relativity Media and Edward Pressman and is scheduled to begin in the fall.
Battleship Galaxies will come with a Graphic Novel
ICv2’s site, linked below, is reporting that the new Battleship Galaxies boardgame, by Hasbro, will come with a graphic novel, printed by IDW Publishing. Librarians will definitely want to alert their patrons that are gamers, but their patrons that are into comic books and graphic novels might not be aware that the game will come with a graphic novel introduction to the Battleship Galaxies universe and game. This will also be a good talking point for librarians for both types of patrons to start a conversation.
