Guy Fawkes Mask Used in Protests

Here is an interesting little story.  Guy Fawkes masks, made popular by the graphic novel and movie V for Vendetta, are being used by “Occupy” protesters.  The individuals wearing them have claimed they wear it to provide anonymity.  Some won’t get the connection, but some will, that this character did protest what the story’s government was being depicted as and eventually the individual turned to violence in his protest.  Even though this is basically part of freedom of expression I don’t really want to see violence used or this entertainment property being misrepresented by the protesters.

AMV of the Week

This weeks AMV comes from YouTuber Kalysons.  This individual takes the song “Time for Me to Fly”, performed by Jonas Brothers, and edits it to images from the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender.  Many will discount this AMV, it hasn’t been viewed much, because of their feelings toward the Jonas Brothers.  It doesn’t matter to me how much an AMV has been viewed or not.  I look at how it’s put together, if the song is catchy and if it fits the anime.  This song has a good message and fits Aang and his journey perfectly.  There is some pixelation within the video, but not enough to distract from the viewing.  Check it out on YouTube under “Avatar AMV – Aang – Time For Me To Fly or check it out below.  I enjoyed it Kalysons.

Doujinshi Threatened

The United States is wanting to standardize copyright laws between Japan and seven other Pacific countries.  Japan has had a unique marketing tool with Doujinshi.  Doujinshi is fan made manga that fans can sell at doujinshi conventions, only for that one convention.  The fans use copyrighted characters and produce fan manga.  Comiket is one of the largest conventions for this type of product.  The Japanese publishers have always let these conventions happen because it also helps promote their characters and keeps interest and possible create new interest in their published titles.  Thank of it as you get a small taste of the characters and then you want to purchase the whole meal.  It would be nice if the U.S. publishers would recognize that this could help them in their business here in the U.S.
