We are just having fun reviewing and discussing comic books, graphic novels, manga, anime/animation, music and movies that we have recently read, listened to or watched.
Sun Gods to Gamma Rays gives us a single that has that other worldly feel just in time for the week of Halloween. “A Ghost to Find” is one that harkens back to the psychedelic sound of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. This is one that won’t make you jump up and dance it is more of a melodic tune where you put it in after a long day and relax. “Overdose” is the title track for Maudlin Strangers upcoming EP. This group has a smooth sound to them. The lead singer has a clear and strong voice that reaches over the instruments with little ease. The band has the restraint not to overpower the lead singer even though they have some strong beats going on. The song is very melodic and will almost hypnotize you with the flowing rhythm. Coming out of Brooklyn is the trio Little Daylight with their single “My Life”. “My Life” has a catchy rhythm that is infectious to me. The vocals are light and poppy, which isn’t a bad thing. I enjoy songs that have a light feel to them and just make you want to move your body. There is to much harshness in this world that it needs to be broken up with a little bit of fun. Little Daylight has that electro/pop feel in this song, that brings the fun. Hopefully, they will continue to have fun with their music, we all need that spot of sunlight. Eilidh’s “Home” has a solid rock sound. Music is good and her vocals are strong enough that they aren’t overpowered in this song. Very nice, check out her video below from her YouTube channel – Richard:

The “Constantine” YouTube channel is giving us a first look at the upcoming Constantine television series. This one looks really good and I hope it makes it through the crowd of new shows this fall. Constantine premiers October 24 on NBC. And now the first look:
The Carolina Manga Library has started a IndieGoGo campaign for $1500.00 to purchase better shelving for their traveling reading library. This library is used at different conventions we the Manga Library is set up for Con goers to visit an read. AnimeFestival Wichita has a similar library that comes to their convention. Already I love this band. From their style to their name, they’ve got everything I look for in a band. Not to mention I loved the music. The grinding of the electric guitars and just overall clash made for some amazing rock. The only critique I have is that the vocals need to be brought out more. When I hear the singer he sounds great (even with the voice modifications) because he fits the music really well but for the most part I can’t hear him. Even when I can hear him it’s hard to understand a thing he’s saying, which stops their message from getting through to others, if Mammabear fixed that small thing they would be incredible.

What is today’s bands deal with old, trippy sounding vocals? I was hooked from the very beginning of ‘Marooned’ and was taken out of it by the vocals. The electro feel they have going on is awesome and makes me instantly start to move. The voice treatment is what stops me from enjoying this song as much as I want to. I’ve run across this problem a lot over my time reviewing music and I wish it would just stop. Adventure Galley is an awesome name and the group has amazing potential if they would just fix that one little bit.

This is were different people like different things. I guess I’m one of those old timers 🙂 that likes this sound. Like April said the beat gets you moving and for me the vocals remind me of some of the bands in my day. The one that comes to mind mostly is The Cars and their style. I also love the music video with the 1950’s SciFi Movie feel, right up my alley. Two differing opinions, which is great that’s what makes all of this interesting. – Richard
