Ultimate Spidey Gets New Look

Here is a talking point for librarians to use with your comic book fans.  In Ultimate Spider-Man the current storyline is the “Death of Spider-Man”.  Marvel’s website is reporting that their will be a new Spider-Man costume and a new character under the mask.  Remember when you are talking to your patrons that this storyline is taking place in the Ultimate Universe, not the regular Marvel Universe.  Link over to the brief article.

TokyoPop Closing North American Doors

ICv2 is reporting that TokyoPop will be closing its doors May 31st.  This will be a blow to the manga publishing industry.  TokyoPop cited recent economic hardships, the Borders’ bankruptcy and Kodansha expanding their relationship with Random Books/DelRey.  How this will effect release dates on titles has not yet been determined.  Follow the links below for the full article on the closing and the second link to Stu Levy’s statement on TokyoPop’s closing.

Fantastic Cake!

Hopefully you didn’t miss it, but if you did maybe you can catch it in reruns.  What am I talking about.  Evidently this last Sunday Food Network’s Last Cake Standing had a Fantastic Four theme.  Let your patrons that are comic fans know about this because otherwise they might not catch it.  And the way Food Network operates there will be a chance to catch it in a rerun.  So check your listings.

Life Size Catbus

If any librarians have patrons (that are anime and manga fans) planning a visit to Japan make sure you tell them to visit the Ghibli Museum.  Anime News Network’s site, linked below, has an article about the Ghibli Museum.  Part of the Museum’s new display there will be a life-size rendition of the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro.  The Museum has had a plush piece that was child size however this new piece is adult size.  From the Catbus the Museum attendees will exit on the second room.  Once on the second room attendees will see recreations of: the Tokyo-area antique shop from Whisper of the Heart; the restaurant from Spirited Away; milliner’s hat shop from Howl’s Moving Castle and the forest from Princess Mononoke.

Movie Pics of Green Lantern

ICv2’s site, linked below, has given us some pictures of Ryan Reynolds in his computer generated Green Lantern costume.  Not the worst CGI I’ve seen.  Quite a bit of this movie will probably be CGI because of the aliens and space & alien planet environments.  Librarians can us this movie as a talking point for their DC Comic book fans and animation fans.  Hopefully, this movie will be good.  Trailers for Green Lantern have made me fairly pleased with what I have seen.
