Some news for your library’s Trading Card Gamers. Konami will be releasing the Yu-Gi-Oh! Samurai Warlords Structure Deck on June 26. The deck will have 38 Commons, 2 Super Rares (Legendary Six Samurai–Kageki and Shien’s Smoke Signal) and 1 Ultra Rare (Six Samurai Xyz Monster).
Neonomicon by Alan Moore and Jacen Burrows has recently been challenged at a library in Greenville, S.C. Neonomicon is a Bram-Stoker “Superior Achievement In A Graphic Novel” award winner and is intended for a mature audience. The library had it properly shelved in the adult collection. However, a mother let her 14 year old daughter check it out. She, like most people, thought that even though it was in the adult section of the library, it would be alright for her daughter to check out. This is where libraries and librarians could take a proactive step and educate parents. Let parents know that graphic novels are for every age group and some titles are not appropriate for children. When you go to Exploration Place’s “Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination” exhibit a little extra money to go on the Millennium Falcon experience. This is a life size mock-up of the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. Video plays and you get to experience a ride through space with C-3PO as your guide. It is similar to an IMAX experience. The cockpit does not move, but the way the film is shot it makes you feel like you are moving. This piece of the Star Wars exhibit is an extra $3.00 per person, but it is well worth it. Dynamite Entertainment’s Lone Ranger, Vol. 2: Hard Country is out this week for everyone to purchase. Since there are not to many western graphic novels this would be a nice addition to your collection.
This release slipped by me. I reported on it, but I never released the trailer for Superman vs. The Elite. If you haven’t picked this title up for your animation collection it is available. Thanks to YouTuber sjyounis for the following trailer:
Dark Horse Comics has been adapting Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s, New York Times Bestselling Strain Trilogy, written by David Lapham and art by Mike Huddleston. The first Volume of the comic book adaptation, issues 1-6, will be available November 2012. This title I have not personally read, but with the nature of the book being in the Horror genre, I would say this will be more suitable for your patrons that are 16 and up. Have your purchasing agents mark their calenders if you want to add this to your graphic novel collection.
Viz Media is releasing Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots novel, June 19th. This title will be one that appeals not only to the anime/manga fan, but also your library’s gaming fans. The project MSRP will be $15.99. When you get it in at your library you could spotlight other gaming titles that have been made into novels (i.e. Resident Evil, MASS Effect, and Doom just to name a few that have been published over the years).
