Star Wars Table Top Strategy Game

Fantasy Flight Games is coming out with Star Wars Armada, a table top strategy game in 2015. The game is for two players and comes with several unpainted and some painted ships from both the Empire and Rebel Alliance. In addition the box set will include 130 cards, a variety of tokens and dice and of course instructions. The game itself is for two players and will be of interest to table top players as well as Star Wars fans. Projected price at this time is set at $99.95, so you better start saving up for it now.

herMajesty Gives Us the Single “Crystals”

Let me just start off by saying how cool it is that the band decided to start of their name lower cased and capitalized majesty, that’s probably one of the coolest band names I’ve ever seen. Now on to the music, I loved the intro and the instrumentals throughout the whole song. It had a sort of rocking motion that reminded me of the ocean and is very soothing. My only problem was the vocals. I don’t think the vocals fit well in general with the rest of the music. It didn’t sit on top of the music comfortably and overall I just didn’t really feel like it worked. If they could work on the vocals I would really like to see where they would go.

Wow, this harkens back to the ’60’s style of music to me, maybe early ’70’s feel. It is a sound you don’t hear much these days. This will appeal to individuals in my age range that a younger crowd, unless they are open to a different feel to their music. – Richard

Falling on Hard Times Single from Julius

Julius comes out of the gates strong with his intro and then the song kind of has a letdown when the vocals come in. The vocals were fine and I really loved the instrumentals behind him. The intro just doesn’t make sense with the rest of the song. The intro starts strong and makes me think something almost grand is about to happen, when in reality the song’s energy completely changes and I am left hanging high and dry. He should’ve either made the rest of the song fit his intro or made an intro that fit the rest of the song. Julius has great potential. Once he works out the kinks and rough music blending he’ll be great.

“Falling on Hard Times” instrumentality does have a grandiose feel to it. Julius’ voice is one that has a storyteller tone to it that would work well with rock or folk music. I enjoy his voice and after listening to the single it is one that grows on you. The ending is a little harsh, but otherwise I liked the overall song and would be interested in hearing other songs by him – Richard

Ghost in the Shell Turns 25

If you are going to be in Japan during August or part of September you might want to check out this art exhibit. Ghost in the Shell turns 25 and there is an art exhibit for the event entitled, Ghost in the Shell, 25th Anniversary- Art Exhibition. If you are in the area the exhibit will be in the Seibu Gallery in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro from August 8 – 20. Then if you miss it there you have another chance to see the exhibit. From August 27 – September 8 on the 8th floor of the Hanshin Department Store in Osaka’s Umeda. Tickets will be 1,200 yen ($11.75).

“Ghost Crowd” from Broken Quote

The immediate feeling I got from Broken Quote was a darker, more sensual sound that reminded me of The Weekend’s “Wicked Games”. I like the flow of the backing track but the vocals were too wispy and blended too much. They need to have some sort of support under them. You need even more support to sing softer and most people make the mistake of not supporting it enough and that’s what’s happening with Broken Quote. I feel like if he just focused a little more on the support 90% of his problems would vanish. He’s got an amazing stage name and great instrumentals; I can see him going far if he cleans up the vocals a bit more.

Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden Single “Blue Hotel”

Usually I don’t like higher pitched female vocals, but in Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden’s case I really liked it. Kate was softer but she wasn’t wispy. There’s a big difference between singing higher with breath control than without and Kate proves that. She had enough support and strength behind her sound to work with the rest of the music instead of getting overpowered by it. Speaking of, I loved the groove from the instrumentals. The more rock feel gave their sound just the right amount of edge to really stand out in a good way. From the very beginning I was really into the music. Their name is a little long for me but that’s a minor detail, I know plenty of bands that have longer names that have gone big. This is another great band to keep your eye on.
