People the Kangaroo “Let Go”

city bird publicitypeople

I’ll be honest, I was skeptical of this group from the very beginning just from their name. A group’s name is very important, you want it to be unique but still attract people and I’m afraid this group name would deter me. Getting to the music my reason for being skeptical was justified. The intro was interesting and I enjoyed the mix of percussion and electro but the vocals were lacking. I didn’t like the smoother flow of the lyrics because the music is already connected, I really wanted the vocals to be harsher and more defined. The instrumental interlude was really cool and I could listen to it all day, the vocals also got a little better when the song picked up the pace but I still wasn’t too fond of it. I honestly would love it if they created this song purely for the instrumental music and I never say that.

Spectre in Constantine?

jim

Will the Spectre be showing up in Constantine, the DC Comics Vertigo title on NBC?  Things kind of point that direction as the show as added the character Jim Corrigan, to the show to be played by Emmett Scanlan, who is known to be Spectre in the DC Universe.  This could be another fun series like Arrow if they introduce several of DC’s supernatural characters to the show.

What would really be cool is if they would tie this into Arrow and Flash for crossovers.  But that’s probably to much to ask for.

Space Battleship Yamato Optioned

yamoto

Skydance Productions has optioned Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers) for a live action Hollywood film, according to The Sports Nippon newspaper.  The article went on to state that Christopher McQuarrie will direct the movie after he is finished directing Mission Impossible 5.  This will give Space Battleship Yamato a 2017 release date.  We will have to wait and see if everything advances.  If not we still have the anime series and Japan’s live action movie.

Postcards From Jeff is in “A House”

city bird publicitypostcards

Postcards From Jeff has an unusual name and an even more unusual sound. Jeff’s rough voice is amazing and speaks volumes to me. The heavy percussion in the background is a nice touch as well, it helps a slower song like ‘A House’ feel a little faster and helps the listener stay focused. The lyrics themselves were really nice as well and I can see them connecting with a wide audience. The only thing I would pick out is that Jeff’s voice almost becomes platonic throughout the song. He seems to stay very close to one or two notes and it can get boring to listen to of he’s not careful. Other than that I think Postcards From Jeff is doing pretty good and have them on my list to watch.

Alexander Wildwood’s “Bad Blood”

blackpandaPRalexander

Love it! The hard beat and driving feel of ‘Bad Blood’ is amazing. Normally I would complain about the warped voice but it fits Alex’s voice and the fast tempo of the song makes it feel right. The organic, intense feeling I got from Alex’s music is truly exciting and makes me want to listen to his other songs. I can even picture him doing a slower song and it still working. It’s very rare for me to have few critics and even rarer for me to have virtually none. This is one of those rarer cases. Everything about ‘Bad Blood’ was working for me and I’m really excited to follow Alex and see what else he comes up with.

Season 3 of Arrow looks to be like great outing and now we also get the first season of the Flash.  And to top it all off they are tied together.  Bringing us more superheroes and super villains.  I for one can’t wait.  Check out both trailers below from YouTube’s “Warner Bros. TV” and “”The CW Television Network” channels:

Maggie Rogers gives us “Little Joys”

city bird publicitymaggie

I was really intrigued by the intro of Maggie’s song ‘Little Joys’ but the treatment of her voice didn’t do it for me. I didn’t even mind the slower tempo most of the time. At some spots it felt a little draggy and could have been kept up a little better but I think the rhythm of the vocals pulled it along. The raw feel of her music is brilliant and I wouldn’t change a thing. Especially towards the end where only the strings are playing. As long as Maggie makes sure to not let her music get too draggy and fix that voice treatment she’ll become one of my favorites and others as well.

Godzilla Rampages Through PlayStation 3

godzilla

Bandai Namco Games is streaming a trailer of their upcoming Japanese release of Godzilla, for the PlayStation 3.  In the game Godzilla will battle some of his fellow creatures: Mecha Godzilla; King Ghidorah; and Mothra.  I would expect that at some point this game will be available in the North American market, but as of now it is only in Japan.  So unless you have a PlayStation 3 from that region, you’ll have to be patient.  Check out the trailer below:
