ZIP! Gets Rurouni Trailer

ZIP! a Japanese morning television showed a trailer for the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin live action movie.  This is one movie librarians will want to keep an ear to the ground on because it should eventually make it’s way to North American markets.  Kenshin might be an older manga series, but it is still one of the most loved series and when new readers come into the format this is one of the series that is suggested to them to read and the manga and anime should be on must library shelves.  Thanks to AnimeNews Network and YouTuber MrZoom91 for the trailer below. You will have to set through a little of ZIP! before the trailer starts, which is approximately 45 seconds in:

Today is Mass Effect Day

Here’s a Unique View for Teachers

Here’s something librarians can pass on to their teachers within the community or use it within the library itself.  Akitoshi Maekawa, a 46 year old teacher in Japan, is using Chopper, from Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, to demonstrate civil rights.  Chopper is a character that was isolated from any interaction from the world when Luffy and his crew first encountered him.  People made fun of him, they were scarred of him, and bullied him because of this, but Luffy and the crew befriend him and he becomes part of the pirate crew.

Maekawa’s class related the Chopper character to several issues including: racial discrimination; people forced into a homeless lifestlye; handicapped people; and bullying.  Follow the link below for the complete article.
