Green Lantern Animated Movie

Yahoo just released a first look at the new Green Lantern: Emerald Knights animated movie.  This is a direct to DVD and won’t be out for a while, but when it does remember to pick one up for your library.  This will appeal to your comic book and animation fans that you have in your library.

Tomb Raider Reboot

ICv2 reports that Graham King, GK Films, has acquired the rights to the Tomb Raider film rights.  The site mentions Angelina Jolie, but really she has had her turn.  Time for some new blood.  GK Films recent credits are The Town and Rango.  If handled correctly this can be a cool franchise.  Link to the article below.

Battle: Los Angeles

This will appeal to your comic book, science fiction, and gaming patrons that visit your library.  This looks good, but one never knows until you see it.  If it makes money for the study I could see this becoming a franchise.  They could do movies over the same invasion just in different parts of the world and one wonders if this is what they have in mind since they specify Los Angeles in the movies title. Check it out this weekend.

Ironman 3 News

ICv2, linked below, is reporting that Shane Black will not only direct, but write Ironman 3.  The article says that Marvel wasn’t happy with Ironman 2’s storyline.  Therefore, they are at this time having Ironman take on real life type situations instead of the next guy in a super-suit.

Red Riding Hood

All of your patrons that are Twilight Otaku will probably be interested in Red Riding Hood which debut’s this week in theaters, it’s even directed by the same director that directed Twilight.  Thanks to Yahoo! Movies for the trailer.

Magic Tree House Anime

This will be something to catch the eye of librarians.  Anime News Network, linked below, is reporting that Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House has been green-lit to be an animated film.  If everything moves forward without any complications the article says that the film will be released in Japan in 2012.  This is one that I would say will be translated for the U.S. market.  This will be a great promotional tool when it does hit the U.S. to make displays featuring it and the children book series by Osborne to encourage more readership for the series.

DVD Release of Interest

Here are two DVD’s that will be of interest to libraries this week that are comic/animation related.  The first is AMC’s Walking Dead Season 1, the adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Image series Walking Dead.  This will definitely appeal to your zombie fans.  If your library happens to have the collected editions of the comic book series it would be a great tie-in promotional.  The other DVD is a little bit more kid friendly.  Disney is bring over Studio Ghibli’s adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin’s Tales from Earthsea. Again this DVD can provide a tie-in promotional to LeGuin’s novels.
